This is not like a fully completed thought but yk
So I’ve done my first aid + CPR a few times. And every single time I try and bring up scenarios for fat folks
Specifically like ‘what if someone is too large for me to wrap my arms around then to do the heimleich’
And its incredibly rare I get a decent answer.
How absolutely insane is it that me, as a fat person, is asking how to have MY life saved or to save ANOTHER life, is an impossible feat if someone is fat.
Most of the time they tell me to 'just try anyways uwu’
There has got to be a better option.
From a first aid and CPR trainer, who is also fat.
The heimleich is scientifically as effective as slapping someone VERY hard on the back. The only reason it’s so well taught is the man that invented it did a lot of great PR for himself. It’s also a bit easier for smaller framed people to get the necessary force in, because people are often extremely scared to hurt people, even in life threatening situations.
With larger bodied people, whether they be fat, tall, muscular, etc. If you cannot get your arms around them, literally just slap the shit out of their shoulders. You want hard, open palmed slaps right in the center of the shoulders or slightly below.
If they are too tall for you to reach that high, guide them to lean over the back of a chair, and then slap slap slap slap slap.
It’s been proven to be just as effective through many studies. It just doesn’t have a trademarked name and a dramatic effect in film.
If you have to do CPR on a larger bodied person, again, fat, body builder, tall and broad, whoever, the trick to finding where you want to put your hands if going to be to take your hand and shove it in their armpit. No seriously. Put your hand in their armpit, then drag it in a straight line towards yourself until you’re in the center of the chest, then put your other hand beneath that one. This is where you push. Then you are going to move the arm closest to you out of the way so you can get closer to them, and get the leverage you need to press down for compressions. The more of your body weight that is over your hands, the better the compression will be. Act like you are trying desperately to pack the last of your clothes in a suitcase, and just slam down hard on their chest.
They will make *horrible* noises. You might even break ribs.
But a broken rib is better than being dead.
One day, perhaps, other CPR and First Aid instructors will actually know and teach this shit. But the medical field is filled with people who don’t know, don’t care, or just outright hate fat people. So while this information won’t fix your complaint, I do hope it helps someone out there with saving their loved ones, should it ever be needed.
Information that will save lives.
A CPR instructor told me a long, long time ago – when I had to be certified for a HS job, so, like, a LONG time ago – to think about it as though the person had already died, because their heart stopped, so, like, yeah. And if you manage to bring them back from the dead, what the fuck is a broken rib in the face of BRINGING THEM BACK FROM THE DEAD?
So don’t be shy. You are literally trying to pump their heart back into working from outside a cage of bone meant to protect that heart from being fucked with in any way.

I think about this a lot.
may I add also “butt dial” vs “booty call” vs “bottom text”

i love this new gen of pop stars so much
an absolutely humungous update they just keep getting better
I think this needs an important addendum:
Not only did Billie Eilish donate $11.5M, she also called out a room full of billionaires, including Mark Zuckerberg, directly to their faces, saying “If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but, yeah, give your money away, shorties.”
The $11.5M she’s donating is about ¼ if her net worth. Imagine if a billionaire did that? If Mark Zuckerberg donated ¼ of his net worth, it would be about $55 BILLION… and he’s still have over $100 billion left.
And, yet, unsurprisingly, people are mad at Billie Eilish for what she said and not at the billionaires for hoarding all the money and resources

no more jokes about taylor swift’s lyrics or about gaylor when all that does is distract from the fact that when it is no longer lucrative to present yourself as a liberal “progressive” artist she has quickly moved on to marrying and befriending trump supporters. i do not care if there was anything gay between her and her ex bestie when her new bestie brittany mahomes is being personally thanked by donald trump. i think it’s a shame that all discourse i see on this site about her right now is about whether it’s ridiculous and stupid to think she’s not straight. what we should be talking about is what it means when the biggest international pop star is getting engaged to a trump supporter during a time when we are seeing eugenics white supremacy ads. i don’t care to hear about the eras tour unless it’s about how dave portnoy (a trump supporter and alleged rapist) got a personal handwritten note from her at the eras tour. it does not matter if you think she’s a crap lyricist or the best lyricist of our generation when what matters is what her choice to align herself with maga signifies about the culture

It’s so infuriating that teen smoking rates were at an all time low in the US and we were on track to basically eradicate smoking and nicotine addiction in teens like it was flat out uncool to smoke and then They came out with nicotine injector flash drives that light up and taste like cotton candy. And have lead in them.

The thing with statistics - via
Numbers don’t lie but people can sure as fuck pick and choose the numbers they give you and phrase things to make them sound like they mean things they don’t
learn fucking stats or at least how they can hurt
As a wise man once said: There are lies, damned lies, and statistics.

hey sorry not to be an asshole but I saw someone say that a sports team posting about pride month was “pandering” and I need you to log off and touch grass because now more than EVER it’s important that large institutions (and especially those that could easily be right wing like sports teams) show the fuck up for queer and trans people. especially trans people. so no it is not “pandering” to take a stand for a marginalized group of people that are currently under attack for trying to play sports. be so fucking for real
here’s a tip about war: Don’t fight the people who are on your side
A thing I have recently learned that is relevant to this conversation:
Every single Major League Baseball team has a Pride Night in June, except one: the Texas Rangers. Why they choose not to have a pride night is their business but there is one team who saw that and decided to take it personally.
And for the last few years, the Baltimore Orioles have scheduled their pride night during a home game in June when the Texas Rangers are visiting.
There may come a day when the Orioles are not playing a home game vs the Rangers in June. If that happens, I sincerely hope another team will step up and schedule their Pride night with equal pettiness.
Hey guess what…
[screen shot from the Baltimore Orioles schedule showing that Wednesday June 25 is a game against the Texas Rangers and it is, in fact, Orioles Pride Night & Pride Jersey give away]

why would you ask us, a narnia blog, this
happy pride month to this post specifically
I wasn’t aware of this one, so I’m trying to spread the word.
Black faith leaders have called for a 40-day “fast” from Target for Lent in response to their compliance with Trump’s resegregation agenda.
Now this is an effective boycott. It is targeting (ha) a specific company with a clearly stated goal. The amount of time is long enough to be noticed, and could be extended if needed. Anything that can be purchased at Target can also be obtained elsewhere, so it is actually possible to boycott this specific company for a very long time. Target is caving to fascism and rolling back their diversity and inclusion policies. The goal is for them to reverse that decision. This is an achievable goal.
Boycotting everything all at once, for one day or for as long as you can, because everything is terrible and we’re mad about it…does nothing. It’s vague, disorganized, and frankly impossible. We have to buy things sometimes. You can’t just target the economy as a whole. You have to be specific.
If you want to start a boycott, use this one as an example. Choose one target. Provide one (simple, clear, easy to explain) reason why that company deserves to be boycotted. Explain what you want them to do differently. Make sure that it is something that can actually be done. Then tell people about it.

Literally sobbing. A judge, a US judge defended us. A judge brought up intersex people, uaing the term intersex, to *defend* us by not allowing our erasure. I’m having a lot of feelings right now
Somebody get Judge Reyes a bodyguard and some armor plates for under robes during court.
I’m serious, we need to protect every friend we have right now.

Hey, look at me. Look at me. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: you need to condition yourself to being okay with being inconvenienced by things. The first time I spoke about this I meant it in a mental health way- it is good to go out to the store and see people versus just ordering alone at home- but there is another more pressing societal issue you should be more concerned about as well.
Any service you rely on for convenience can be weaponized against you the moment you begin to rely on it. Streaming used to be a cheap and convenient way to see movies at home. It is now exorbitantly expensive, you need multiple accounts just to get what you want, and any of those movies can be taken from you at any time. And unless you have gotten used to going through the “inconvenience” of owning physical media, you can do nothing about it. Same goes for buying things on Amazon. Same goes for any service like DoorDash etc. These companies WANT you to be reliant on them for convenience so they can do whatever they want to you because, well, what else are you gonna do?
Same thing goes for the uptick in AI. If you train yourself to become reliant on AI for doing basic things, you will be taken advantage of. It is only a matter of a couple years before there are no free AI services. Not only that, but in the usage of AI’s case, it is robbing you of valuable skills that you need to curate that you will be helpless without the moment the AI companies drive in the knife the way they have done with streaming. Delivery. Cable. Internet. Etc. It will happen to AI too. And if you are not practicing skills such as. Writing. You are not only going to be at the mercy of AI companies in the digital world, but you are going to be extremely easy to take advantage of in real life too.
I am begging you to let go of learned helplessness. I am begging you to stop letting these companies TEACH you helplessness. Do something like learn to pirate. It is way more inconvenient at the beginning, but once you know how, it is one less way companies can take advantage of you. Garden. Go to the thrift store (older clothes hold up better anyway). These things take more time and effort, yes, but using time and effort are muscles you need to stretch to keep yourself from being flattened under the weight of our capitalist hellscape.
Inconvenience yourself. Please. Start with only the ways you are able. Do a little bit at a time. But do something.
