there are a lot of posts that have good takes about mea but the rest of the post is just “anyway, worst game ever, waste of time, what bullshit” and i just can’t reblog because i don’t agree with this idea that it’s all bad. i love mea with all my heart - especially with this second playthrough that brings me a lot of comfort and happiness. so i kinda feel protective toward the game and what it offers. and it has a lot to offer! A LOT

still, i do agree that there are things in mea that are just plain bad or could have been better. and i don’t just mean the animations.

the first thing that comes to mind, that can’t be forgiven easily, is the design of some species, asari especially. they all look the same. it’s been discussed quite a lot for a reason: compared to the trilogy it’s jarring.

second, you shouldn’t have to use a mod to play a game - to me, the game should allow you to turn things off if they are too much to you. sam’s constant warnings about the weather or about some missions are the worst, and without a mod you can’t escape it.

third, there is often a lack of balance in mea - areas without anything and suddenly way too much activity. as someone who records my playthroughs to make transcripts of it later and who uses subtitles, it’s kind of a nightmare… because so many conversations are happening at the same time and the game doesn’t know which one to pick to show subtitles of it. so your attention is a bit everywhere, you don’t know how and where to focus, and that’s probably a general thing in mea. it’s all over the place.

and finally, someone made a post recently about them wasting some voice actors. voice actors in mea are doing an amazing job but someone like natalie dormer was wasted with lexi. it’s not that she’s not doing a phenomenal job, it’s just that it’s DORMER, and she could have been so much more in this game!
