“Joey Tuna drifts through the cartoon seas of Souped Up, raving with his underwater crew and riding the waves. He’s the Big Tuna, and the soundtrack is all big tunes.”

Surfacing from the depths, the project takes inspiration from Katsuo Ningen, the surreal Japanese tuna mascot. Much like the creepy-yet-endearing figure, Joey Tuna carries a duality: moody, bass-heavy sonics submerged in London’s rave undercurrents, balanced with the playful, off-kilter energy that defines Souped Up.

Across 12 tracks – with two bonus cuts on the early sampler – the album drifts through neon-lit atmospheres, sonar pulses, and deep-pressure basslines. From the hypnotic techno undertow of Cuban Heel to the bubbling tension of Narcan, the glowing iridescence of Belly Vibes, the masked theatrics of Phantom of the Ops, and the whimsical currents of Woodwind, each track reveals a different creature in this underwater world.

Joey Tuna is both unmistakably Need For Mirrors and a fresh tide for the label – flowing naturally with Souped Up’s spirit while sounding like nothing else in its waters before.
