about
It’s been more than three years since Nihiloxica released any new music, and they aren’t just rehashing old tricks here. They’re going for it. Kudistro puts (band member/producer) pq’s ripping, distorted laser-gun synth work right to the foreground - creating a dense polyrhythmic pattern loosely inspired by the kuduro sound of Angola, from which the track takes its name. Bugandan drums sing through layers of rude distortion and compression never before seen in a Nihiloxica track. Spooky-J remains resolute on drum kit and samples, conducting the groove in his typically minimal fashion. This is not just any Bugandan techno. This is Nihiloxica in their purest, rawest and most concentrated form yet.
This live project Nihiloxica brings together the indigenous percussion group Nilotica Cultural Ensemble, the British drummer Spooky J, and an analogue synth player for a contemporary, hybrid take on traditional Buganda and Busogo sounds from the Kampala region of Uganda. A must hear and must have! EX-CTM
