if you want butterflies, you need to live with caterpillars.
i am not being metaphorical, i work in a garden center, stop buying plants ‘to bring in the bees and butterflies’ and then immediately poisoning every caterpillar that dares to consume a single leaf
you will not get butterflies if you kill all the things that turn into butterflies! what are you doing!
you are not immune to reblogging ai and thinking it’s not ai. you are not the master ai sleuth you think you are
I have seen multiple ppl on my dash who frequently share anti-ai posts recently reblog things that I either know from previous experience are ai or set off a flag in my brain and I spend extra time trying to determine and come away pretty convinced it’s ai. I’m not trying to vaguepost but more say like, gang, it’s time to admit not all ai is so obvious and we’re not all super geniuses born with the Human Spark that can tell what’s real and what’s fake
AI image/video quality has gotten so much better than it used to be, even a year or two ago. and also if you’re halfway decent with any type of editing software you can go in and smooth away the more obvious tells.
I think one of the lessons here is not to be rude when you’re letting people know they reblogged AI because you’re not perfect either, and anyway it doesn’t have to be a matter of shame. (man we do always manage to turn things into a shame/virtue situation, don’t we? el problema es el cristianismo cultural.)
men and women are not opposites. men and women are not enemies. men and women are two parts of a broad coalition which fights against a mutual enemy: inkjet printers
The Gimli Glider is one of those stories where every aspect sounds more fake than the last and yet it all actually happened.
-A passenger plane was underloaded with fuel because Canada had just converted to the metric system and everyone supposed to double check their numbers got it wrong. -When the plane ran out of fuel they were too far away to make it to an in-service airport and had to head towards the Gimli military base. Which was shuttered. -They were coming in to fast due to a lack of flaps control and had to perform a series of slips (as shown in the video above) to slow down, basically drifting a giant passenger plane. -As they come down they realized that just because Gimli’s been decommissioned doesn’t mean it’s abandoned because a bunch of people are having drag races on the runway they’re about to need. -Despite everything they managed to land safely and no one was killed or even hurt which is why it’s one of the best air disasters to meme on.
The Wikipedia page on this is fantastic and my favorite line from it is “Flying with all engines out was never expected to occur, so it had never been covered in training.”
*chuckles randomly because I remembered “Man stop wasting them peoples time”*
The one case where he’s not wasting them people’s time.
Okay I don’t know where you got that idea from but I found the original episode on YouTube and he has no twin brother nor claimed the kids were his brother’s.
He really was wasting them people’s time.
(and he’s also an asshat who verbally abused the kids and their mom)
It’s easy to look at these and assume “well, high crime cities need more police,” but i think that’s putting the cart before the horse.
Police make crime worse.
Police take fiscal oxygen out of the room, away from actual social support programs. The money spent on policing could go to housing, nutritional services, healthcare, civil rights, building inspections, labor rights enforcement, street maintenance, public transportation. But it goes to paying guys to sit around idling Ford Explorers all day and hitting poor people with sticks.
Crime follows poverty in absolutely every single case. Every single “high crime city” is because of the fucking poverty.
