What a disappointing ending
What a disappointing ending to what started as a great experience.
Last year, I applied for a loan through LendingClub and was approved almost immediately. The process was smooth, there were no issues, and I honestly had a great experience. I even recommended LendingClub to coworkers and others in my industry because of how easy everything was.
Fast forward to this January — I decided to use LendingClub again for some debt consolidation since the payment terms were going to be more affordable. With autopay in place, a strong personal credit score, and stable employment at the same company for over 11 years, I assumed this would be a straightforward process.
Unfortunately, that’s not how it played out.
The process started well, but then income verification became a repeated obstacle. I was asked to provide a recent pay stub, which I submitted (dated 1/14 and only about a week old at the time). It was denied with a note stating: “Pay stub must be no older than 14 days.” Confused, I resubmitted — denied again with the same message. This cycle repeated multiple times.
I called customer support, and the representative apologized and asked me to submit my final pay stub from 2025 so they would have a full year of data. I did exactly that — only for it to be denied again with the same “must be within last 14 days” message, even though that document was specifically requested by their team.
I continued submitting updated pay stubs, all clearly within the required timeframe, and each time received the same denial message. Finally, on my next payday, I submitted my pay stub dated January 28th — on January 28th — and it was still denied for being “older than 14 days.” At that point I called again, and the representative acknowledged the issue and asked me to submit a W-2 to finalize verification.
I submitted the W-2 as requested and then heard nothing for over a week. Today, I logged into the portal to check the status and saw that my loan application had been denied due to “Unable to verify income.”
This makes no sense. My income has not changed — in fact, I have received a raise since my previous approved loan — and LendingClub successfully verified my income during my first application.
Overall, this was an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience. I will secure the funds I need elsewhere, but I genuinely hoped I had found a lender I could build long-term trust with.
