I have been a client at Arag for three years, and for the first time last month, I needed their help. It took them a month and a half to respond to my email, and they didn't even provide any advice. Their customer service is extremely rude. Overall, it was a very bad experience.
Discriminatory Behavior and Unprofessional Pressure
I contacted Arag solely to get information about their legal protection insurance for employment rights. At no point did I indicate anything about personal matters. However, an employee named Sezen Sinan made offensive and discriminatory comments about my origin, including asking why Thai women allegedly date older German men.
I did not consent to any contract, and despite this, I was repeatedly pressured via phone calls to sign, which felt coercive and unacceptable.
Any further unsolicited calls will be treated as a violation of my rights, and I am prepared to report this behavior for discrimination and harassment. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Arag.

Not only did they not ever do anything for me after receiving all that money, they added active damage on top. Going with ARAG was one of the worst decisions of my life and I hope they go broke.

So far so good until today when i callee the first to answer told me to call tomorrow and hang the phonem i caleled again and asked to complain and i was sent to a answering machine. Called again after work and one kidn man answered and sent me to customer service. Guess what? A person that refused to process the claim. Tols me tomorrow they dont work. She also refused to cancel the contract and said that in germany it is only german language. She also told me and .y germna partner that was witness at all the call that sbe would ensure my contract is labeled as someone that just complain and was mocking me like she had the right and all.power and i ca t do anything about it. I ahould have seen the reviews here because clearly even for germna arag is lame and full of incompetence even for germans imagine for us expats .

I signed up for ARAG in 2022. At the time of signup I gave my bank account number to take the fees. Several months later ARAG contacted me saying I did not pay. I called to clear the matter up and I was met with a rude lady who told me that I did not give them my bank account and when I asked for an English speaker so I could get to the bottom of it, I was informed that "I live in Germany now so I should speak German". I asked her on the spot to cancel my account she claimed she did. I was met with communication later that kept on billing me for a service I never used nor could I ever log in to or access. I contacted again and they told me to send the cancellation in writing. I did that per email. I still kept on getting bills from ARAG. Now I have a letter from a bailiff asking me to pay. The entire experience has been off from the very get go. And I have to now pay money for a service I never used and where I was treated like a second class customer every step of the way because I did not speak English.

The communication doesn't have choice in English.
The reimbursement doesn't refer original invoice number, which is very difficult to track.

Dont ever place any form of insurance with ARAG. Appalling service
Having completed all the details of our claim and submitted it, the next thing we recieve is a survey asking us how satisfied are you with the service from ARAG
'Why have we wasted our time setting out the details to recieve a survey on your service that states the current stage is:
Stage: Rejected
State: Closed
We have been waiting for a phone call from someone but have had nothing at all, not even the courtsey of an update or explaination. Just a survey on how good your service is and would we recomment you!
Not if this is how you treat your customers. No chance. You cant even be bothered to reply to your 89% negative reviews on your UK site which you own. There will be compaints to the ombudsman and the broker will be instructed to cancel and refund the renewal and never place any form of insurance with ARAG for us ever again. Disgraceful way to treat customers who are already stressed and upset at their treatment to have come to you in the first place.
ARAG representatives leaves you feeling "they are right, you are wrong".
It's vital to be consistent and reliable when you work at a customer service. Not Zig-Zags (Zipper's) replies from different people.
Weeks ago, I wrote about my dissatisfaction from ARAG not honoring their Insurance Policy, meaning while I am 100% covered by ARAG, by any ARAG law I found clearly stating that, as representative told me that. A formal answer I received from them stated that as they requested another letter page of the Initial letter, to be sure of 100% coverage. A simple case. require one day of an attorney's time, However, after two weeks without a reply back, I called their customer service, this time the representative wasn't fluent in English, so my friend, who's a native German spoke to her. Then she told him "Sent it immediately now online, and suddenly she added a new "idea" - to address that entity again, yet now, to ask them "to go to their archive, and look if there was even an earlier letter"... that was never requested, earlier, beyond: ARAG law states clearly: "If you are already covered, the initial official letter is the one that counts". A very clear law. yet the representative insisted to request more letters from their archive - "maybe, an internal, a non-official, will show - what exactly? - It's unbelievable, it left no doubt - the intent ARAG's third representative, maybe there's a letter weeks or months earlier, and then - ARAG won't need to cover the legal costs. My friend, the lawyer in a different field, was astonished and embarrassed of the manner and the tone of their new reply. We checked ARAG law again, consulting his colleague too - both Data and legal professional indicated: ARAG needs to honor it's word, as their law, instead of raising new requests of potential archive non-official documents.
This created a shift of main topic to dwelling into an ocean of documents, the entity's reply was: "we sent you the official first letter" ...
It also ignores a humane perspective of 'Trust'.
The representative's response on this platform "To contact their team, without reference, as they will get back immediately" - it didn't result with any reply non so ever.
I'm closing my review with a personal statement: North American branches never behaved even close to this manner. it's the same company, yet the German branch needs to upgrade its customer service replies to people who place their faith with them.
My friend - the German lawyer said yesterday: "it's vital you publish it, our culture is more rigid, still is so, you got a typical old-fashioned reply "Nein", most German tend to be bitter, yet obey, people need to hear more voices and cases, that's a path to improve to a modern caring society".
Inappropriate Customer Service Experience
I am based in Munich and recently called your 24/7 hotline due to a legal issue requiring urgent assistance. After navigating a lengthy automated menu and answering several preliminary questions, I was finally connected to a customer service representative.
I explained that I am an expat in Germany and requested legal support from an English-speaking lawyer. The representative then transferred me to another male colleague. Upon asking him whether he spoke English, he simply responded “No” and immediately hung up on me.
I found this behavior highly unprofessional and distressing, especially considering I was calling in a moment of legal urgency. This is not the level of service one expects when reaching out for help — especially from a legal insurance provider that promotes hotline support.
I ask that you please review this incident internally and ensure that expat clients can receive respectful and accessible support, particularly in urgent situations.

Easy to obtain legal help in time of need
It was very easy to reach out to the insurance and get an attorney assigned. It took 2-3 calls/emails for the attorney to fully understand our case (presumably because of language gap - english vs german). Also, they kept us asking us what we wanted to do instead of sharing advice based on legal experience. But in the end they got us a very favorable result (compensation from company which terminated my pregnant wife) - so we can't complain a lot. Hence 4/5 stars for the overall experience.

The service was not as promised when…
The service was not as promised when buying the insurance. I bought this insurance because I needed it in an emergency. I took the insurance from Livinton and Anusha. Their service was very bad, hence 1 star only. Also, they were not available by phone. Livinton also blocked my number for a few days to avoid helping me with the case. In Germany, every legal step can be taken within some deadline (2-3 weeks), but unsupportive and slow help from these two just increased my workload and frustration, and in the end, I had to pay for this. I took this insurance because there was no other option than ARAG for emergency, and if you are considering taking the insurance, please kindly avoid Livinton and Anusha because of their service. They work like they are doing a government job and behave like they are doing you a favour by helping you.

Delayed Or No Compensation For Your Medical Bills
I had two medical bills from last year, in total almost a 1K euro. Despite repeated efforts in submitting the bills over and over again (via app, via email communication with their sales rep, including submitting a doctor's note on the detailed explanation on the diagnosis and treatment as well), ARAG still gives me ZERO updates about the progress, now almost half a year has passed since the date of the bill.
This company has no communication at all. The sales rep knows nothing, you cannot reach to anyone in their office. Renumeration often takes forever before you getting compensated.
Simply put: they treat you like a money cow. Avoid them at all costs!

Sent a query two months ago still no answer! what a legal insurance!
I had issue with my previous tenant and have tenant legal insurance both from Arag and pay a premium of 17 euros for month for nothing! I can't even get answer to my queries.
Pay for nothing
If you see this insurance company, just run away. And I’m talking about legal protection here, which could actually be quite an important insurance. But this company is brutally incompetent.
The only thing they do is passively forward emails between the two parties—without any intervention. And for that, you’re supposed to pay 25 euros a month?
I canceled my insurance with them immediately because I believe that the “service” they provided was something I could have just as easily done myself.
Unbelievable that even official organizations can still scam people so blatantly these days.
extremely slow process
extremely slow process. I downloaded the app and uploaded cost evalutations from the dentist. I have supplementary dental insurance through ARAG and would like to know if and what they will cover before making appointments. I uploaded these to the app at the start of January, this was a month ago and I never recieved a response. Today and I called and had a very unfriendly person on the phone who kept interrupting me and told me it takes a long time "because everyone waits until the end of the year to submit their paperwork to us I have no idea why". This has nothing to do with my question. Very bad customer service!
