damaged bag-never again finnair!
damaged bag! never go a response to inquiry Nr. ZRHAY11159!! What a bad client service! never again!
Terrible transfers
Single flight is fine, but had tranfer flights to and from bangkok thru Helsinki and both times terrible experience. Transfer window was only 50min, with first one being only 30mins due to plane being late, and transfer gate was on the furthers oposite side of helsinki airport! First time i ran for like 20 mins with all my gear, but figured they would just wait for me to board. No dice! They closed the gate and were departing without me! And looked shocked to see me! They said i didnt board my plane from Lithuania! Even tho i was in Helsinki!!! Thankfully they boarded me still after some phone calls and 20min wait. But had i been 1 min later, the plane would have departed without me. On way back, i was paranoid of the same situation so i also had to sprint thru entire airport with heavy bags, all sweaty, barely made it. And even though it was transfer, i had to do the whole security check and scan AGAIN! Which eas stressfull cause my bag was already full of duty free liquids!!!! Terrible organising, terrible planning, and i paid lremium for finnair tickets just to avoid all this hassle! Never again! Only giving 2 stars because planes themselves were quite nice, so would be unfair to give 1.
Worst flight experience ever!
Worst flight experience ever!
I am a relatively frequent flyer. Finnair created a new experience.
Our guide brought us to the airfield of Tartu, Estonia on time. The captain of the plane had decided to leave early. No communication, no phonecall, no email.
Do you believe it?
Finnair WIFI didn't work
Finnair WIFI didn't work. Requested refund. Finnair referred me to a companion airline, British Airways, who handled another part of the flight. British Airways referred me back to Finnair, thereby completing the circle. Spent 30 days on this thus far.
I had a very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with Finnair.
I purchased my flight tickets and paid $150 for checked baggage for both outbound and return flights. Everything was paid in full. Later, when I opened the Finnair app, the baggage was missing from my booking.
I contacted customer support and was told that baggage was visible in the system and that confirmation would be sent by email. Instead, I was suddenly asked to pay over $200 more, without any clear explanation. I refused, as I had already paid for seats and baggage.
After that, the agent started communicating aggressively and even threatened to cancel my tickets. I clearly stated that I did not agree to any cancellation. Despite this, my tickets were cancelled without my consent.
This is completely unacceptable and unfair. Finnair cancelled my flights due to an internal issue and unprofessional customer service behavior. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated and hope this review helps other customers be cautious.
Unfair and untrustworhty
Finnair canceled my flight from Paris to Helsinki due to technical issues without offering a new ticket. Tickets have been refunded. However, they refused to refund my Ivalo Paris ticket for the return (which was part of another booking, as Finnair does not offer multi-route tickets). How am I supposed to come back if I can't go ?
Over the phone, they confirmed that they would refund me, but changed their mind a few weeks later by email, with no explanation, and then just abused the situation.
This is totally unacceptable. My friend traveling with me, with the same tickets, has been totally refunded for both her tickets.
I will never travel with Finnair ever again.
Just following up on anold grievance…
Just following up on anold grievance where I booked a flight with my family to London for vacation before covid was a thing. Scheduled the flight early and was going to fly out in August. Covid changed everything and we had elderly family flying with us. The flights opened back up but we would have had to quarantine for 2 weeks on arrival in London negating any common sense to travel there. Was told over and over again to cancel within a couple days of the flight. I finally called the last couple days before the flight and was given a couple dates around christmas to reschedule. No other options were given and I could not reschedule on the dates that were provided as my children had school on those dates, and my parents and Inlaws were still weary of travel. As most of the party was out of town we all did not travel to the airport to contest, as we thought it to be futile after many discussions with the airline. More than $6,000 was taken from us and was, by their account, forfeit. I will never recommend or use this airline. They took advantage of the times to steal our money and vacation from us, offering little to no alternatives and no vouchers. The pandemic was abnormal and their idea that flights were running, at the time, on schedule so that they will force people to honor their commitments, no matter the circumstance or risk, was appalling. I will never recomend Finair so fly at your own risk. I told them at the time I will continue to leave bad feedback until I feal I've earned my money back. Been a while but I will continue to do so.

They lost my suitcase on a direct…
They lost my suitcase on a direct flight and then spent two weeks ignoring my claims. When I finally got it back, the lock was broken and items were missing. No apology, no compensation, just generic emails. They’ve lost all the 'premium' quality they used to have.
Lost the bags with stroller and car…
Lost the bags with stroller and car seat for our baby. Very poor customer service and support. Impossible to get in contact with the airline for any updates on the process.
Very bad travel experience with Finnair
They delayed our baggages. We had to wait 4 days for them to transfer from one airport to other. Despite of many emails and phone conversations we had to arrange our own transport to pick them up from the airport. They also refused to compensate us after all. Worst travel experience, avoid Finnair if you can!
Apalling customer service
They delayed boarding until last minute, and closed the gate before I had time to get up and ask what is going on. I was polite about it, but their ground crew put the blame on me even before I had explained the situation
I’ve flown with Finnair for decades, but the recent service cuts are disappointing
I’ve flown with Finnair for decades, but the recent service cuts are disappointing. The baggage drop-off at Helsinki airport is now almost entirely DIY, with very few staff to help when the machines fail. It feels like they are charging premium prices for a low-cost carrier experience. Not the airline it used to be
DON'T FLY BUSINESS WITH FINNAIR!!!
I recently _tried_ to help my dad change his standard business ticket home due to unforeseen circumstances. The customer service absolutely shocked me. They were lying, stalling and misleading every step of the way, trying to charge as much as possible for the change that should have been for free. After HOURS of waiting and haggling, I had to accept a charge of 900€ to even get him home. DO NOT buy business tickets from this company!
They Lost our bags - and are impossible
Lost our bags. Don’t have an email, so you can’t contact them, they only found one at their airport and can’t help us at all.
Denied compensation for flight…
Denied compensation for flight disruption. My flight got delayed and then cancelled. According to EU 261/2004 one is entitled to x amount depending on situation in such a case. My flight was cancelled and delayed by ca 15 hours. I claimed compensation and got an automatic response that my claim was denied.
I will avoid Finnair at all costs in the future.
Shocking airline
I'm in my early 50's and have been flying around the world for over 30 years. I'm originally from Scandinavia but now live in Australia.
I have flown with many different airlines, including the cheapest of the cheapest airlines at times, Ryanair, the cheap Chinese airlines etc.
Finnair comes in way under any airline I have ever flown.
I thought I would be getting a decent experience with them when I booked to visit my elderly mum over Christmas and came back appalled how bad it was.
Screen on the plane not working half of the time on one of the legs, the staff wasn't particularly helpful. Came in nearly an hour late to Helsinki and nearly missed my connecting flight. I had to run through the airport like an idiot to make it. The staff was not helpful in a very stressful situation. (I had been travelling over 30 hours at this stage). I was promised there would be an airline representative that would be outside the aircraft to help but there was no-one there of course.
Seat allocation was given to you during online check in with no option to change it unless you paid money. Not even at the gate they would change it without you paying for it. Absolutely shocking. Have not heard of an airline that does this. (some airlines charge if you want to choose weeks at advance but not at the point of check in or at the airport)
No pillow supplied on the Finnair flight, only blanket. A friend who also flew Finnair was given pillow but no blanket.
On the way back, the flight to Helsinki was delayed. No notice was sent out, I found out at the airport. Yet again I nearly missed my connecting flight and yet again had to run through Helsinki airport like a maniac.
I was very unhappy with the seats allocated (middle seats) and asked so many times to have it changed but no, they wouldn't change it unless I paid.
Never again, I would hundred times rather fly the cheap Chinese airlines. At least you get what you pay for with them. Never had an issue with them except that you sometimes get long layovers at the airports. I rather do that though than going with Finnair again.
Very disappointing experience
Very disappointing experience – not recommended
I had a long-haul flight from Helsinki to Hong Kong, and the experience was extremely disappointing. Even during online check-in, despite a large number of empty seats on the aircraft (and the fact that you could change seats for free once on board), the airline wanted to charge around 50 EUR just to change my seat from a middle seat to an aisle seat. This felt unreasonable and purely money-driven.
Be very careful with carry-on baggage as well. A cabin suitcase plus a backpack are allowed to weigh a total of only 8 kg, which is absurd for a long-distance flight. They actively check the weight at the airport. My suitcase was just 2 kg over the limit, and I was forced to pay extra and check it into the hold. The explanation given was “safety regulations,” even though the plane was half empty, which makes this argument hard to take seriously.
On top of that, during this long-haul flight, drinks were only included with meals. If you asked for water or any other drink outside meal service, you had to pay extra. I have never experienced this on an intercontinental flight before.
This was my first and definitely last time flying with this airline, and I do not recommend it to anyone. There are other airlines at a very similar price level that offer a much higher standard of customer service and a far more reasonable approach to passengers.
Diabolical customer service
We missed our first flight chartered by Cathy pacific through Finnair then all the rest of the flights in our trip were cancelled without being notified by Finnair. We called Finnair a few hours after missing our initial flight to get help to rebook and they yelled at us down the phone and refused to help us. We have lost thousands of dollars now due to their negligence and awful customer service. We have tried to make contact with them to try and receive some compensation and explanation for the poor treatment and have heard nothing. They left us stranded in Hong Kong (from Australia) due to their negligence. This is an awful airline for customer service - do not expect any support from them.
Flew with Finnair from Heathrow to…
Flew with Finnair from Heathrow to Helsinki and then to Tartu. Very professional staff and excellent pilots. We suppose to have turbulence as we had a strong tail wind but they navigate through the bad weather and all 4 flights were perfect. Clean airplanes and the use airbuses which are much safer then Boeing. I would highly recommend them.
Finnair retained over $7,000 of unused tickets
May 2025 my mom, sister and her daughter were to embark on a trip to Gothenburg, Sweden. Unfortunately, my 84-yr old mother fell and injured her shoulder which prevented her from making the trip. My sister and daughter also canceled their trip as the purpose of this special trip to Sweden was for my mom to visit her family one last time and my sister was to be her escort. My sister tried to get a refund or tried to get credit for the unused tickets, but Finnair denied both options and just kept the money. Shame on Finnair. They retained over $7,000 for 3 unused tickets. And their customer service is less than par and they do not refund or credit any money despite the unfortunate circumstances of each individual circumstances. Do Not fly Finnair if you desire to be seen or heard, try any other airline for a Better customer service experience.
