hey dawg, love the poll, just wondering if minecraft was left off out of a deep loathing of the cube game or if you just didn't think it'd be people's first exposure?
I left this in the notes and in at least one reblog but uhhhhhh I Genuinely Didn’t Know lapis lazuli was in Minecraft because I’ve never played it.
I’ve also never seen a single episode of Steven Universe lol.
I made the poll because I’m rereading the Deltora Quest series (it still slaps fyi) and I genuinely had not seen or heard of the lapis lazuli gemstone OUTSIDE of the series besides the one time I heard a Steven Universe fan say the word, which is the only reason I knew it was in Steven Universe. (That’s also why the note about pronunciation is in there; I had no idea how it was pronounced because I’d only seen it written down and was surprised when the person said it because it was NOT how I was saying it in my head.)
Had I known that it appeared in Minecraft as well I CERTAINLY would have made it an option. This is also why I didn’t include “real life” options because I’ve not come across it out in the world even though I did KNOW it was a real gem, I just assumed it was a lesser known/unpopular one.
For the record, I have made a sequel poll that includes Minecraft and other options because there are a LARGE number of people in the notes who learned about lapis lazuli through special interests/hyperfixations and/or family members for whom it was a favorite gem. In that poll Minecraft is holding steady at about 37% and “rocks are cool” is a solid second place at 17% (well above Steven Universe!) so it’s an interesting experiment.

you couldn’t pay me an amount even feasible to do this evil shit. you are lower than dirt
This. You can and should judge people for working for ICE, they're people who willingly signed up for an American secret police force that's violating the rights of people constantly in order to act as enforcers of a fascist government.
Basically everyone is not an ICE agent. Like, virtually all of us, the entire population, are not ICE agents. No matter how steep our bills are, very nearly every single American is not an ICE agent.
We can, and should, judge them forever. It should be the sort of thing their grandkids are ashamed to discover. The sort of thing that hamstrings a career forever. "What were you doing in 2025-26? Oh, you were with ICE? Thank you for your time, get out right now."
They should all be judged and shunned for the rest of their lives.
The funniest thing I've learned in the last day is that the "$50K bonus" only pays out after 5 years of service.
Like, lmao, you thought Trump was gonna give you a big chunk of cash? Silly.

As much as "no" is already a complete sentence, "because I don't want to" is a complete explanation.
I often do things I don't want to for someone else's sake--but I get to choose when I'm willing to.
If someone asks you for a favor, you can say no. If they push for a reason, you can say it's because you don't want to. They don't need a thorough explanation of all the ins and outs of why you don't feel up for doing something you don't want to do right now. It's your business. They can respect that.
Needing a "good enough" reason to not do things before someone takes no for an answer is actually not cute, not healthy, and directly facilitates issues with consent. "Because I don't want to" is valid.

Hey, remember back when he blew a gasket during his first term over NPR doing their annual reading of the Declaration of independence because he assumed it was about him?
'Cause I remember that.

my synagogue was set on fire last night during Shabbat at 3:00 AM in an arsonist attack.
no one was injured, which i am extremely grateful for. they have several security cameras, so there is a suspect in custody. the details and motivation haven't been shared, but it can be reasonably assumed to be a hate crime.
this was the first synagogue established in the state, the only one that's not hours away, and certainly the largest in the area. two Torah scrolls are destroyed beyond repair, 5 are damaged. the library where children have religious school and morning Shabbat service is held has been completely burnt down, much of that section of the building that's left is covered in soot and ash. the administrative offices were also lost.
our Tree of Life, which was for important life events like bar/bat/b'nei mitzvahs, was destroyed. i was just looking at it this past Tuesday while waiting for a meeting with my rabbi. it was dozens of bronze plaques in the shape of leaves with commemorations on them placed above a trunk. there is a photo of the wreckage that makes me cry every time i look at it.
we have a rescued scroll from Nazi-era Czechoslovakia (it is thankfully unharmed). we have a Holocaust memorial garden. we have names of dead loved ones displayed. memories in and on the walls. there are so many deeply meaningful and largely irreplaceable things here.
my rabbi was out of state for the last several days. i cannot imagine how he's feeling.
im fucking pissed at the police department. they said that they would patrol the grounds more often in light of the worldwide rise in antisemitism. I have not personally seen them once. they let the only area for our community to gather be set on fire.
i am exhausted. i am angry. i am thankful it is not any worse, because it easily could have been, but tonight i am grieving that little library full of vintage Jewish books.
The same Synogogue was also bombed in 1967. This is the best article I could find so far this soon after the fire.
yes, this is my synagogue. Beth Israel Congregation was firebombed by the KKK in 1967 along with the rabbi's house because he was an outspoken supporter of civil rights for Black Americans.
here are some photos of the aftermath of the most recent fire:
I have been asked about fundraising, so I will be providing a link to donations.
Please help us rebuild if you can.

Be honest: Have you ever loved reading fanfiction for a pairing you don't actually know, without any intention to ever read or watch the actual source material?
