Drained is a role playing game in which players are vampires trying to navigate mundane social situations.

The game is intended to mirror a conventional "dungeon crawl", with an understanding that social situations are as risky and stressful for a vampire as delving a lost tomb might be for a more traditional adventurer.

We hope that players will find both humour and tension in the contrast between the normal situations they need to navigate and the horrific power they wield as vampires. Humans can easily be killed, beguiled or terrified, but these apparent solutions are  likely to escalate a tricky situation into uncontrollable chaos.

Also available to download is a sample haunt - sort of like an adventure module - that can be used to learn the system and as a fun "one shot" game. "Gargax Lager" challenges vampires to attend a rock concert and hopefully meet their favourite band before they inevitably lose their composure and everything goes horribly wrong.

Hey there! I added your game to Goodreads, and wrote a review there!

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/63128996-drained

Thank you for the kind and considered review!

The point you make about 1d6 composure being a bit stingy is very fair and something we went back and forth on during playtesting.

We did find that characters starting with lower composure were incentivised to rely on their supernatural abilities more than those who could more safely take risks with "normal" social interaction, creating some fun moments, but for a risk-averse group of players starting with a fixed 5 or 6 should work fine.

Either way I'm glad you liked the game and really appreciate the feedback!

That is a good point, about the supernatural abilities! Didn't think of that.

Apologies for resurrecting this discussion several years later - but just to note that we took this feedback on board after further playtesting and have updated the rules. Vampires now start with 1d4+2 composure instead of 1d6. It's only a minor change, but means that vampires can now typically expect to take one "hit" before losing their composure - which encourages a bit more experimentation. Thank you again for your review and feedback!
