when you gain entry into the tower, the Magic Lady is waiting for you

she has an orb

she is eternal and possesses all magic in the realm

your prize for completing this quest is gazing upon her stunning visage

-semlohkcolrehs-:

Shit is bad, but today, I learned that California’s kelp forests have made a major comeback with the help of scientists, fishermen, and hammer wielding volunteers.

It’s a win for habitat restoration. It’s a win for marine life. It’s a win for all of the people who helped make it happen.

It’s a fucking win and it makes me happier than words can describe.

rothko in the turner gallery???

A photo of a gallery with a Turner painting next to a Rothko painting. They share similar yellow, orange, and green colors.ALT

I can’t get it right in the photo but going absolutely bonkers over the way the colors just like. blur across from the rothko (1950) to the turner (1845). this whole room is full of these abstract colors it’s like they’re bleeding between the picture frames with no regard for time

A museum description of a painting reading: "Mark Rothko 1903-1970 Born Daugavpils, Latvia, lived Daugavpils, Portland (Oregon), New York Untitled c.1950-2 Oil paint on canvas North American artist Mark Rothko greatly admired Turner. He famously remarked in 1966: 'This man Turner, he learnt a lot from me'. The works in this room - unfinished paintings from late in Turner's life - appealed to Rothko. Late in his own career, he created paintings like this one which use rectangles of intense colour to convey emotion. In 1969 Rothko gave a group of paintings to Tate, hoping they would be displayed near those of Turner."ALT

to give a fuller, more honest response here, i do really think that for many people (myself included) 2016 felt like the last time the world seemed relatively “normal.” to explain with a personal example, as a 31 year old in january 2026, i have voted in a total of four us presidential elections. of those four, three of them have had donald trump running as the republican nominee. and for many fully grown adults now, donald trump has been a dominating presence throughout their entire adult political life. if you are currently 30 years old or just turned 31, there has never been a presidential ballot without his name on it since you were able to start voting.

i think we sometimes forget now how unbelievably ridiculous and far-fetched it seemed pre-2016 that donald trump would get anywhere near political power, much less win two terms as president and bend the entire GOP (and frankly all of american politics) to his will. the idea that someone like him, as crude, vulgar, and unhinged as he is, could be taken seriously as US president was inconceivable. i think 2016 was a real “through the looking glass” moment for a lot of people and now, 10 years on, it’s hard not to look back and see what a complete fucking trainwreck this has all led to.

they pronounced her dead and tried to give her a proper burial 😭 this must have been terrifying in the moment but that’s a little sweet and a little funny, I’m glad she made it out unscathed

I live by the motto, “if you can’t buy what you want, make it.” And this motto came to life recently in the form of a floral mosaic dining table for my back deck.

image

Our deck table had been showing its age already when the wind caught the umbrella and cracked it. I wanted to replace it with a mosaic table because I’d been enjoying that art form recently. But I couldn’t get one the size I wanted so I got creative.

I spent a few weeks looking for tile and figuring out a very loose design concept. I started by picking a limited set of tile shapes and a color palette.

Once the tiles arrived I had a piece of particle board cut to size for the base and I experimented with different motifs until I settled on a selection of floral shapes that gave me plenty of variety to fill space without locking me into one repeating pattern.

image
image

And then I was off! I basically doodled my way around the table, attaching tiles with Weld Bond (I went through 4 full bottles!) and rocking out to the K-Pop Demon Hunters soundtrack.

Once the florals were done it was time for the background…

image

Over 3,800 1cm glass tiles make up the not-design part of the design. It went pretty quickly though because I just had to fill the space, leaving room for grout.

image
image

Once I had the tile done, my husband assisted with disassembly and reassembly. We used the legs off the original table for this one (waste not).

One huge bucket of black grout later…

image

She is finished.

I enjoyed making it and just looking at it makes me so happy - I can’t wait for all the dinners we’ll have around this table 🌼❤️
