oh you look flashy at the bar in tampa and ilya laughs at him for getting a stylist and excuse ME, ilya, but this outfit is Rules Approved by someone who knows The Rules Of Outfit Appearance, Personally. is Rules Okayed. it’s a Good Outfit™️
sometimes as a gay person who exists in the world u will make a joke abt being gay in front of a straight person and they will start laughing a little too hard and thats what the reaction to heated rivalry among straight ppl sometimes feels like
ive said it before but heated rivalry really is an artistic masterpiece as far as proving to what extent you can push a small budget & limited time if you have the creativity & talent.
the way ilya & shane GENUINELY look older thru subtle hair & costume changes in each episode to show the 10 years passing…when this whole thing was shot in 37 days
ilya’s accent getting fainter & fainter over time, except when he’s super emotional. which is so natural & a subtle thing to think abt…but they block shot the whole series. out of order. did he fucking write an accent percentage at the top of every script?? like jesus wtf
and its gotta just be the makeup bc even when you look past the obviously perfectly acted mannerisms of youth & being older that hudson & connor did, genuinely cannot explain how they PHYSICALLY show less baby face from ep 1 to ep 6. its gotta be also partially the way their holding their faces..
heated rivalry is a masterpiece through & through. can’t believe my eyes & ears when i see this show, and with every rewatch i’m just more amazed w each new detail i notice. even the set & props are true to each year the phone models for example, like a period piece. absolutely incredible.
much to be said about the fact the costume designer for heated rivalry said that shane and yuna are both wearing linen in the coming out scene on purpose. because she wants it to be obvious that yuna buys shane clothes. and then shane subsequently makes active choices to wear those clothes when he is around her because he wants her to know that he loves her. but he also wants to show that he can be what she wants him to be by wearing what she wants him to wear. not sure if i have the strength to say it. in fact i need to lie down
coming back to this i think it is so interesting how in the most recent comments she made about the costumes she said that yuna buys shane linen because it’s what she wears, so she knows that it’s nice and comfortable, but it requires “more upkeep than he is interested in”, which is why it’s not ironed and he doesn’t seem to take care of it. that particular phrase is so awesome. something his mother has given him “Requires More Upkeep Than He Is Interested In” but he keeps it and wears it and carries it around with him to show her he appreciates that she gave it to him. in the books he wears a shirt related to a charity event to signal to his parents that he’s a “good person”. remember me, your son, who does charity events? remember me, your son, who is a good and normal person who does good and normal things? and this shirt does the same thing without the addition of a logo. remember me, your son, whom you love? you bought me this shirt. and i’m wearing it not only because i love you but because i need you to remember that you love me

There’s more to black hair than just the selected styles portrayed in media, and I thought it would be fun to show people how much texture, shape, fades, length, and style can be combined when drawing black hair—-cause it’s a kind of manipulation our hair can do irl!
