GOG.com is a digital distribution platform operated by GOG.

The store is known for delivering DRM-free game titles on the platform and for its optional GOG Galaxy client, which is required for some multiplayer titles distributed on the platform.

GOG.com was launched on October 1, 2008 as Good Old Games, before it was rebranded to GOG.com in 2012.

Installation

GOG.com is a storefront which allows games to be installed either through separate installers from the website, or through the GOG Galaxy client.

Game installers

Game installers can be downloaded from the user library on the store website. Clicking on an item in the library will display a window with available download options. The installers are based on Inno Setup and exist in both online and offline variants.

• Online installer install the game alongside the GOG Galaxy client and can be downloaded by clicking the big blue "Download and install now" button.

• Offline installers only install the game itself and are available after expanding the "Download offline backup game installers" section below.

GOG Galaxy

Download and run the latest installer from the GOG Galaxy page.

An alternate version is distributed within the Epic Games Store.

GOG Galaxy does not have a Linux version, however the third-party Minigalaxy or Lutris apps can be used instead.

Change the game language

Set in the game configuration window

Select the game from your library. Click the Customization button (to the right of the Play button), and select Manage installation → Configure... In the Language field, select your language and click OK. Notes The game language can be selected before installation or changed after installing the game. For some games, the language can only be changed after the game is installed, either via in-game settings or via an external setup tool.

Verify game files

Use the Verify / Repair option
Select the game from your library. Click the Customization button (to the right of the Play button), and select Manage installation → Verify / Repair.

Version rollback

Allows you to install a previous version of the game if the latest one breaks something.

Change to manual update
Select the game from your library. Click the Customization button (to the right of the Play button), and select Manage installation → Configure... Uncheck "Automatically update to newest version", then select a different version of the game and click OK.

Galaxy Cloud

Galaxy Cloud is a feature of the GOG Galaxy client that allows save data for some games to be synced to the cloud. Each supported game is limited to 200 MB of cloud saves, as of September 1, 2024.

Can't extract BINs manually

Newer multi-part Windows installers cannot be extracted with innounp or innoextract due to using password-protected RAR archives (.BIN).

Archive protection is due to be removed.

Use innoextract with gog_unpack.sh (single-part) or gog_unrar.py (multi-part).

Sales

Sales on GOG.com happen on a regular basis. There are weekly sales that start on Mondays at 12 AM CE(S)T, mid-week sales that start on Wednesdays at 12 AM CE(S)T, and weekend sales that start on Fridays at 12 AM CE(S)T, and are usually themed. They end on the next Monday right as the new weekly sale begins. Additional sales frequently occur, usually themed around a single franchise or publisher.

Big sales usually happen a week or two before Steam's, along with single games every day.
