The Mac App Store is a digital distribution platform operated by Apple to distribute macOS apps and games. This should not be confused with the App Store (also by Apple), which is for iOS devices.
App purchases on the Mac App Store are tied to the Apple Account used to purchase the app, and as such, apps cannot be copied to another Mac without reauthentication.[2]
The store was launched on January 6, 2011 and is preinstalled starting with Mac OS X 10.6.6.[1]
macOS editions of some major titles (such as Death Stranding Director's Cut and Resident Evil 4 (2023)) are released exclusively on the Mac App Store.
