I’m buzzing to share some fantastic updates with you! I’ve recently embarked on an extensive archival mission, diving into my collection of DAT tapes from 1993 to 2007.
As many of you know, we (The Rurals) recorded our music using analogue multi-track tapes and mixed them down on a traditional studio desk, capturing the magic live onto DAT tape.
I’ve started to back these up digitally on a hard drive, as some of the chemicals in the tape are prone to deteriorating, but this has opened a huge can of worms! Each song needs to be separated, edited and mastered, stories remembered and artwork made, with plans to cut some vinyl lathe cuts ( limited edition one off vinyl versions, cut in real time) and as you can imagine, this is going to be very time consuming as there are 150 x 2 hour DAT tapes with at least 15 songs/mixes per tape, that’s over 2000 tracks!!
Whilst backing up these recordings I’ve discovered hundreds of forgotten gems, including unique mixes and versions of songs you may know. This has inspired a massive release plan!
Here’s what’s in store: I’ll be launching a Bandcamp subscription option for just £8 per month. Subscribers will gain exclusive access to this unheard catalogue, with one release (either an album or an EP) each month. You’ll enjoy at least six months of exclusivity before these tracks appear on any streaming platforms! Plus, you’ll receive all future PENG/The Rurals releases, and a stack of recent albums straight away, So its a massive bargain!
All files will be available in high quality resolution, if needed.
