Helleuu :)) I saw a few posts/asks in which you talked about how tattooing on various types of skin can be so different from each other, and I was wondering what its like when tattooing over scars? I'm considering getting mine covered someday, but it's always interesting to hear if that process is very different, or if some designs just don't really work when doing that
Only if you want to answer of course, no worries if not :) Have a nice day!!
I personally love tattooing scar tissue, but there’s also not an easy answer to this question because all scars are different just like all skin is different. In general though scars do not broadly cause any issues when tattooing and sometimes take ink even easier than unscarred skin! The only thing to consider really is if the area is more tender, and also placement/size/level of detail in the design, as in a scar coverup you want to create visual noise and lines/curves that will distract from the scars and not emphasize them. for example here’s a scar coverup I did a while ago
Because the scars were straight and horizontal, I did a design that was very vertical, curved, with lots of dark shading to hide darker scars, while not being obvious about the placement.
with scar coverup tats you can never really make the scar disappear totally, but you really can do some magic when it comes to playing tricks on the eyes.
