I have estradiol and spironolactone now
I went to a local Planned Parenthood location today. My cousin (who's also trans) came with me for moral support. They don't allow anyone else in the doctor's office for privacy reasons, but it was still nice to have him there in the waiting room while I was waiting and when I was done
It was amazingly easy. The appointment itself I'd set up online, and there were just a couple forms to fill out when I got there, insurance information, consent forms, and the like
Then when I met the doctor, she just asked some simple questions. Various medical questions, such as drug use, allergies, etc., sexual history, and so on, and then asked me some basic questions about what my goals were, she did ask when I first realized I was trans, but I get the feeling like that wasn't so much a gatekeeping question as making sure I knew what I was getting into, and she didn't inquire beyond that basic question. Then she discussed the effects of hormones, possible side-effects, etc., and drew some blood. I also got a flu shot while I was there, so that was a nice bonus. I'd been meaning to get my flu shot and hadn't gotten around to it. Then she gave me some printed information, and that was it! I will need to go back every three months for I think she said the first year, and then after that i think she said it was every 6 months. The prescription was sent to the pharmacy I go to, and they were ready to pick up in about two hours, a 3-month supply
And so now I have the pills. Just took my first dose
It feels unreal. After so long wanting but also being afraid, self-doubt, and so forth, to finally have the pills ...
Happy two year HRT anniversary to me!
I’m now on Progesterone as well, and am no longer taking Spiro
