And I’ll also repost a few things here. This is an old drawing from the first time I fully painted a Zora. Looking back, there are many things I wish I had changed or done differently, but I had to start somewhere. It was a good challenge for Zora May!
Meet Sol, a leopard eel Zora. He was who brought me back to the fandom. I need to redesign him, but I haven’t yet decided on a palette. I wanted him to be yellow/tan like leopard eels but it’s a color I struggle with when painting. I have several old sketches with his old design that I’ll be sharing in the next days.

This ended up being way later than I had hoped for (I can’t believe it’s August already) but it’s here guys, it’s finally done!! My main piece for Zora May!! For those of you who’ve been guessing that Varius’ crush is Cleff, congratulations, you are correct! And if you weren’t able to guess that.. don’t worry, none of my friends did either 😂
I had the idea of doing a screenshot redraw of the violin scene from “Whisper of the Heart” because several months ago I had the sudden realization that Varius is actually really similar to Shizuku in terms of her introverted awkwardness, basically non-existent self-esteem, and feeling like she has no idea what she’s doing with her life, and then I subsequently realized the zora that I headcanon plays violin is none other than Cleff, who just so happens to be Vari’s crush! Like guys, it’s literally them! And the idea of this scene with Cleff encouraging Varius to sing along with his violin-playing promptly turned my heart into a goopy puddle so when I saw that screenshot redraw and music were two of the prompts for Zora May this year, it was all over for me, my fate was sealed 😭🥺
If you guys remember my post showcasing my idea for the zora band I came up with, the Luminous Tones, I mentioned that I had already decided which zora played each instrument well before I even started designing Varius, and thus well before I came up with her having a crush on Cleff, so it was once again a complete coincidence that all of this lined up so perfectly! I truly was incredibly lucky when I had initially picked the Luminous Tones members! Also yes, this is why I had to have the concept art for the Luminous Tones posted before this one, because I realized it wouldn’t have made sense to anyone why Cleff is playing violin in the piece!
Anyways, this post is getting long enough as is so I’ll put the screenshot this piece is based off of under the cut for you guys to see, as well as my thoughts on how the piece turned out overall! Shoutout to my first college roommate Cam for introducing me to Whisper of the Heart in the first place, they’re the whole reason this piece exists!

I figure I’d go ahead and ramble about my processes for developing Nerissa’s band some more💕🙏 Please note the following information is still a wip and subject to change.

Including Nerissa, there are 8 band members in total. To continue with the theme I started with Link’s Awakening- they use the same instruments found throughout the game. (A cello, horn, bell, harp, marimba, triangle, organ, and drum.)

To make for a prettier lineup, I also decided the primary color in each of their palettes will be one of the colors of the rainbow. ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🩷🌈

A/N: Chose to take down and redo Shellie from the original post to try and better differentiate her from the other amazing sea turtle zora’s that are currently being worked on. Just wanted to quickly apologize once again for accidently stepping on any toes.

To those connecting dots and want clarification to the above statement, read the comment section of this post (there should be 6 in the thread) in regards to this post! Can assure no toes were stepped on :) she is very cute and i love the lore! 🧡

Once again I did this for Zora May (The prompt was OCs, obviously) but sort of spontaneously combusted after the first couple days. Here are Marla and Sturmaz being disasters.
….Well, here’s Sturmaz being a disaster, Marla’s just trying to keep him less covered in blood.
I didn’t like how the markers I initially chose for Sturm looked here so this also turned into an exercise in digital fixing.
I’ve talked about this but the best way to describe these two is that Marla usually comes across as much sillier than the staid, polite image that canon likes to give the Zora while Sturmaz is…. trying to put on the polite image so hard but in the back of his brain he’s basically a furious dragon fishman. So it’s difficult.
