Intrigued, he notices a strange couple in the audience-an alluring woman and her companion-whose presence haunts him. When the woman, Mirra Astrov, secretly arranges a meeting, she warns Stalsky to stay away. Drawn deeper into her world, Stalsky uncovers a chilling mystery at an abandoned estate where Mirra's husband, the brilliant but unhinged artist Astrov, is consumed by a dangerous vision for his masterpiece.
