Kenku Costume FAQ
So you’ve seen some photos floating around and you have some questions! I’m here to help.

Q: What is this costume of? I don’t recognize it.
A: This is a costume based on Rue, my personal Dungeons and Dragons character. She is a member of the Kenku race and has the very classic Kenku appearance.
Here are some drawings of Rue.
Here are more photos of the costume.
Q: Do you work on Dungeons and Dragons?
A: No, I am not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast in any way. Rue is my own character that I made up.
Q: Who made the costume?
A: I did.
Q: What about the mask blank?
A: The resin mask base is by Crystumes Costumes (tumblr, twitter, furaffinity, facebook). The one I used was the 2014 Raven Blank, which I edited heavily to fit my face and my character.
Please check out Crystume’s other work. It’s all quite amazing.
By the way, Nambroth (tumblr, twitter, website) gave me considerable coaching on how to fur this mask, which I had never done before. I highly recommend you check out her other work on her website because she is incredible.
Q: Do you take commissions?
A: I just make costumes for fun and am not currently taking commissions for costumes or any other type of art. If you are looking for someone to make you a quality bird mask I recommend the two artists mentioned in the previous question.
Q: I saw some other photos and the eyes look different. What’s going on?
A: This mask has articulated eyelids so I can change the expression! I couldn’t choose which expression I wanted the mask to have so I chose “all of them.”
Q: What are the feathers made of?
A: The wing and tail feathers are made of craft foam. The ones in the beard were made by a rooster.
Q: How did you make the ________?
A: I made some tutorials just for you!
- Eyes and Articulated Eyelids
- Clawed Gloves
- Craft Foam Feathers
- Wings and Tail
- Bird Feet
- Attaching feathers to fur
I may make more tutorials if there is demand, and I’ve posted more information on my Patreon.
All proceeds from my Patreon go toward making new costumes and tutorials. Support really makes a huge difference to my ability to make stuff!
Q: Was that you I saw at [convention]?
A: Maybe? I have worn this at Anthrocon 2016, PAX West 2016, and Emerald City Comicons 2017 and 2018.
Q: I followed your tutorials and made something. Want to see?
A: YES, I DO. Please send me links to your work via tumblr ask, @ me on twitter, or send it to [email protected]. THANKS
