I’m so so sorry you’re forced to endure gowns and ballrooms on Gowns & Ballrooms: The Series. I too am abashed and disgusted that the ‘I simped so hard for my wife that racism ended’ show is pointedly refusing to tackle industrial factory conditions in between falling into lakes wearing see through white shirts and getting fingerbanged on the carriage ride home.
I kind of love that Colin is the only child show!Violet never had to strong arm/cajole into marriage.
And yes, that’s for many practical and unique reasons (he’s much younger than his older brothers, he’s a third son, he was barely two years out of his failed engagement, his financial and societal well-being doesn’t depend on it like his sisters, etc), I think it also says a lot about Colin’s character (his sensitivity, his version of masculinity) so subtly.
It means that, for whatever reason, Colin is the only one of his siblings who never entered marriage with the pressure of duty hanging over it — the one who approached the concept of marriage with an openness and a willingness that allowed for it to be a wholly romantic decision because regardless of how much he tries to change, Colin is and will always be a romantic guy.
It speaks so much to his and Penelope’s story and why they fit together so well: because with the eyes of the ton firmly on everyone else, the two most hopeless romantics managed to make a match that was, at its core, entirely for themselves.
