@muslimgamer​ and others might confirm this for me: AFAIK cats are Clean Creatures in Islam, so cats on prayer mats - especially their own mini prayer mats - aren’t offensive. One website I looked at said “cats will be cats, cats like to mirror people, and giving them their own mat helps stop them being a distraction during prayers.”

According to researchers, coordinated critics have mounted a “misinformation campaign designed to purposefully fabricate doubt regarding the harmful impacts of outdoor cats and stymie policies that would remove outdoor cats from the landscape.”

The conflict stems from a groundbreaking study published in 2013 by scientists from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. That study evaluated the combined impact of the tens of millions of outdoor cats in the United States. The authors found that roaming outdoor cats kill approximately 2.4 billion birds every year and are the leading source of direct, human-caused mortality to birds in the country. Similar results have since been confirmed in Canada and Australia.

To those of you still in denial about how bad outdoor cats are to wildlife not just in your own countries but globally here’s the cold hard scientific facts stating that you are apart of a movement of uneducated critics spreading misinformation.

I prefer to think of it as breeding the fastest, cleverest, and most cautious birds. The slow and the foolish are prey.

I mean yeah anybody who thinks their cat is going outside and not murdering delicious animals is an idiot. But pretty much all the creatures that they hunt (pigeons, rats, etc.) are also invasive species, ones which are pretty much completely uncontrolled and have been for centuries. And like half of the cats living in north america are feral (~70 million feral cats, ~82 million housecats in the US) which means that any actual harm done to the environment by one indoor-outdoor cat is a tiny drop in a great big bucket.

This is a great example of why people who can google basic laymen terms but can’t comprehend the actual science should really shut up about concepts they don’t understand.

Anyways this isn’t how it works, you’re an absolute idiot with the scientific comprehension of a kid and keep your cats indoor kids.

Please keep your cats inside.

The galaxy brain saying outdoor cats are killing mostly invasive species as if the outdoor cat isnt /also/ killing native species which uhhhhhh qualifies the outdoor cat as invasive.

The stated pro-bird goal to “remove outdoor cats from the landscape” might strike some people as…extreme. And insane.

July 5th is the busiest day of the year for animal shelters, pets are terrified of fireworks and will run away. Please keep your pets indoors with plenty of hiding places and activities to keep them busy. If your pet is known to be afraid make sure you have a vet approved remedy on hand. Do not ever take your pet to a firework display the risk is just too great.
