Finally facing down the terrifying prospect of running all 50 000 fairy character names through a name website that, at the very least, is spoken of quite highly on tumblr (behindthename.com). To my great relief, all main characters and most side characters appear to be in the clear (woke up in a cold sweat the other night thinking that Alohi might have been made up by mommy bloggers). The ones that aren’t:

-Khari, one of Nancy and Shauntal’s fairy friends. Has ice magic and is getting into summoning in her scant few scenes. Even the baby name websites seem to agree this is a masculine name, and I’m not sure why I picked it in the first place. This will be changed to Ebele the next time I update. The next time I do a major editing pass, I plan to work a few of these latecomer characters into earlier scenes; I am very bad for filling in details as I need them and that sometimes results in sidelining.

-Tokori, the emanation etude teacher. This is the name that kicked off this “wait I should probably triple check some of these” lowkey panic and I’m still not convinced I’m using it right. The baby name websites will tell you this name is “Catori” which is a nice name… which was entirely fabricated. I’ve literally emailed someone about this and may wind up changing it again if I can’t figure it out.

-Pavati, one of Mabel’s sentinels living near Vugoldur. Behind The Name has a listing for this as a hindi name that is flagged as user submitted without any review, and I cannot find any other trace of it as a name other than an american boat company (she is not named after a boat company). The baby name websites will lead you to believe this is instead an indigenous name. All three “sources” seem to agree that it is related to water, which is why she has water magic, but I’m probably going to have to change this too. Parvati is definitely a name, but does not appear to be related.

-Tangentially related, Ametrine appears to be made up, but I was just looking for pretty rock names and it’s a pretty rock name, so I am not offended by this.

Your girl is doing her best but I know my best could be better and I am always open to constructive criticism. I want everybody who is interested in escaping to a magical fairy world to feel welcome and included, and if my dumb ass is doing something to impede that goal, I will fix it and be thankful for the opportunity.

I am reaching out today to demand that [Representative/Senator blank] join Representative Haley Stevens of Michigan in protecting the health and safety of our nation’s children by voting in favor of her Articles of Impeachment against Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F Kennedy Jr. Medical professionals have been sounding the alarm about the dangerous, unscientific policies that RFK Jr is pushing since before he was confirmed for the position. Now, our country is seeing the results they warned of. Measles, an incredibly dangerous and highly contagious disease that was nearly extinct in our country just a handful of years ago, is seeing a full on epidemic among the children of our country. RFK Jr himself has said that he cannot be trusted to give medical advice, but he is giving advice for our entire country’s health.
