I really both love and hate Hudson’s performance of Shane as autistic.
I feel like it’s a very understated portrayal that doesn’t fall back on overused tropes and misunderstood behaviors attributed to autistic people. If you’re not familiar with autism it can easily be missed or misconstrued as him being “boring,” or “wooden,” or “flat,” which happens often to people who are autistic. It shows up in his taking things literally, aversion to eye contact, the burger recipe that makes 8 servings even tho he knew it was only the two of them eating. I think he really did a great job on showing this with care and attention and I love it for these reasons.
But i also hate it cause I’m in this photo and I dont like it.
