Is it okay to ask about Playground (game)? 😔

Oh hey, anon, yes it’s okay!

So here’s the thing, I’m both sort of sad and embarrassed about how development on Playground just sort of… died.

Back then, I had promised myself I would see it through the end because goddammit I had already planned it from start to finish and I was so damn close too (about ¾ of the way there). The thing is, when I started making Playground (and From Next Door) I was just messing around with RPG Maker and game dev as a hobby, and slowly but surely it became pretty clear that I actually wanted to pursue it as a full-time career. So I began to study more in-depth about the whole thing, branching out to learn 3D modelling and programming, and eventually to engines like Unity and Unreal instead of the good ol’ (severely restrictive) RPG Maker, to the point that I just couldn’t continue working on that anymore.

So sadly, I think I can say that Playground as an RPG Maker game is officially dead. I have some hopes that in the future I can rework it as a full-out 3D game, but only time will tell.

Sorry for the long-ish response and I hope this is the kind of answer you were looking for (unless you just wanted to ask something completely unrelated entirely lmao, but feel free to ask again if that’s the case!)

Hey!My friend recently got into junji ito and so I showed her this game. We played through it together, but we weren' t able to find the lighter anywhere. She' s really like to know the "good" endings, but at this point I can't help her since I don' t know where it is as well. Could you please help? Thank you!

Hello!

Had so much fun playing your game, From Next Door. I don't do video playthroughs, so instead lemme shower ur game with love with a fanart. Thank you for a wonderful time! =D

Thank you so much! Fanart is always appreciated <3

Hey, this is a bit overdue, but I just wanted to say that From Next Door was so fantastic. Might sound weird, but it's actually relaxing to play the game. Even when it hits the fan, you just did something so right with the horror that it acts as a game to fall back on when I'm feeling stressed. Perfect atmosphere. - Byron

Granted, that wasn’t exactly my intention while making the game, but thank you so much either way haha!

Hello! I'm the anon that asked about the step sounds. I figured out that the problem was with the lengh of the sound effect: basically, it was too long, so the character would stop moving for half-a-second until the sound had played completelly (which made the movement laggy). I changed the effect (I think it's the one you used? If you got yours from freesounds then it is) and now it works. Thanks anyway for being so nice and offering to help! (Also, sorry for my late reply)

I never knew that could happen, so good to know! And yep, freesounds is my go to place for sound effects so probably haha

You’re no more late than I was lol and feel free to stop by again! ^^

Hello, I hope I'm not bothering you. One of the things I loved the most about From Next Door was the minimalistic but effective sound design. I feel like the different footsteps really helped creating the atmospere and I was wondering how you did it? I've tried using Galv's script, but my character moves weird when stepping on a sound zone /: I'm sorry if you've already answered this question, but I couldn't find the answer. Thank you for your time!

First of all, thank you! Second, I did use Galv’s Region Effects script for the footsteps and I never really had any problems. I’m really not sure what you mean by ‘moves weird’ :/

If you’ve already solved it (this question came in a while ago, I’m sorry) then nevermind I guess, but if you haven’t, feel free to stop by and try to explain it some more so I can see if I can help!

Hey, hello. I had a question after passing the game. And people can not demolish the house and see what's there? Or at least make a rubble? And how did this house appear? Where did the monster ... Maybe this is some kind of curse? ... I will be glad if you answer my question.

That, friend, is the mystery of the game

The demo of Playground is really good and interesting! I honestly like it so much, even though I'm still in the middle of it. I'm not sure if you still plan to develop a full game but one can dream. :') Though I'll respect your decision if you decide not to!

(Currently in the process of answering old messages, apologies for the wait!)

Thank you so much! I have one set goal and that is to finish Playground one day, but I have a short attention span for projects and inspiration for this one comes and goes. I do want to finish it though, especially because I’m actually so close to actually doing it. One day!

@thirdkeyofsun : Definitely leaves questions! Looking forward to seeing where this all goes!

me too! kidding

I look forward to sharing some of the story as well, but I want to have something more concrete first! I already know how I want most of it to go, though, so it’s a matter of finishing the art assets and then getting on with the story and programming c:
