Hello everyone,

The year is coming to a close, and we wanted to take the time to write a little update for you. Roadside Research has really blown up (430,000 wishlists!) over the past couple of months for which we are incredibly grateful. And if you haven't done so already, I highly recommend trying out the demo.

That said a lot has changed internally since the demo that was released 3 months ago. We've been cooking! It's been a while since we've shared progress on the game so it feels like a good time to show what we're up to.

There will be a playtest on December 19th if you want to try out all the new features, sign up through the Discord[discord.gg]!

More Alien Activity

We've also been working on more Alien interactivity within the game. The goop system(tm) has been expanded upon so that you can actually recycle it. Don't think too hard about how that works. New alien technology will be implemented so you can influence customer decisions even, more on that soon.

A Modular Approach

Notice something different? The Gas Station is now built a bit differently, allowing for more room with further upgrades. And allowing you to choose where to spend your cash. More inventory, new shelves, more space? Up to you. The building system has also gotten a nice overhaul.

General Polish & Customization

One of the most common points of feedback with Roadside Research boiled down to the need for quality of life upgrades, more clarity on which mechanics do what, and making sure that the game provides enough information so you can take decisions that feel right.

Can't interact with the counter

Since the update, I can't interact with the counter. Lifting boxes for scanning, cleaning with the shoe sponge, none of it works.

Demo Update #6: Small Patch

Dear Goopers,

After friday's Demo update, there a few nasty ones left in the game. Here we are with a fix for them!

- Fixed issue where it was impossible to stock shelves by clicking

- Fixed NPCs being attracted to trashbags

- Fixed issue where trashbags were hard to pick up

- Cash register money hitboxes are now more visible and easier to interact with

- Fixed issue where player couldn't grab items through the doorframe

- Improved widescreen support

- Made cash register get dirty less fast

- Fixed icons showing on storage rack

- Avoiding issue for joined players when spawning new dirt

- Fixed lingering dirt flies sound on cash register

- Fix boot snapping in the wall and sliding down when taken from a socket

- Smoothed car movement so they no longer defy the laws of physics

- Fixed post-processing during night time at the side of building

- Tweaked the navmesh so MIB dont get stuck as easily

- Fixed car fuel handle position desync for the client when joining

- Rounded most uses of currency to 2 digits

- Players now lose 30 research when dying

- There is a shark hidden now on the map :)

Demo Update & Release Window Change: Government Agents Overhaul + New items

Hey everyone,

This announcement comes in two parts: first regarding the release window, and second, a new demo update that is available now.

Roadside Research has just passed 300,000 wishlists, that's a lot of people! On top of that, over 260,000 people have played the demo, which has given us a lot to reflect on.

With all this feedback, we've learned a lot about what players expect Roadside Research to be. To meet those expectations, we have taken the decision to move the release window from Q4 2025 to Q1 2026.

We want to make Roadside Research the best it can be and make sure that everybody has a smooth experience in the game. This way, we can make sure we have enough playtesting feedback and quality assurance to make something that is enjoyable for all. This was not an easy decision, and we hope you understand our reasoning behind it!

That said, we have updated the demo with some new features and re-works that we've been cooking up behind the scenes. So you can have a deeper look into how we are building up the Early Access launch of Roadside Research.

Patch Notes: Demo Update #5 - October 10, 2025

Please note this update unfortunately breaks saves, so you will have to start over fresh.

Agents improved - They are more aggressive, they always interrogate, they hunt players down once one of them dies. If you die, research, store rep is lost, customers flee, goop is left behind
1 New license to buy - 2 new products to sell (Motor oil small and big)
New Alien Skill Tree Layout - 1 New alien tech to unlock. The Hypno-board: Customers have 30% higher price tolerance
Alien Economy Rework - Reworked how the alien research is gathered

New Features for the Early Access Launch

And yes, probing will be added into the Early Access launch. This was the most requested feature (by far) and it is our duty to serve the people with this mechanic. Here is the 3D model we are working on!

Aaaand yes you will have the ability to draw your own face disguise on launch in Q1 2026. Here's a little snippet of what is in store.

Game has so much potential!

First, I wanna say that the marketing has been genius and is what sold my friends and I on playing it. The graphics are perfect for what the game is: goofy and silly. I don't need hyper-realistic humans and interactions; I'm entertained enough by the concept of the aliens with their poor disguises. Pros: - Multiplayer is so much fun. My 3 friends and I took turns with different roles each shift with one friend at pump, one friend at cash, and our other friend for general store cleanliness, goop duty, and ...
