The destruction in this game is very impressive, inspiring even given its time, I wish the game was mostly just a sandbox with less combat . The half of the game where you're destroying things is very fun and is worth it if you get the game at a discount.

This Game is greatly flawed and suffers from a lot of jank and poor mission and game design. The driving is mid at best and at worst actively annoying , every car handles differently in a bad way, going over small terrain will flip your vehicle or make you lose control. The game is pretty stingy with its upgrade currency , unless you're doing most of the side missions you will not unlock most items and upgrades on your 1st playthrough .

The side missions range from alright missions like capture and defense or hostage rescue to downright deplorable missions like vehicle transport in which you'll have to drive a vehicle across the map to a given location on a timer. All of these missions should have at least a minute extra on the timer given how bad the driving is in this game, you'll be flipping spiraling out of control , running into npc and hostiles while trying to get somewhere across the map in 3 minutes only to get to the drop off zone and go past it and lose the mission bc the end zone of the mission has a terrible hitbox.

The destruction side missions are pretty fun but some of the ones in the late game are annoying bc you have to destroy EVERYTHING in the ear, so if there's a tiny bit of metal left it doesn't count as you finishing the mission , so you'll find yourself in situations where you've 99% destroyed a building and ran out of ammo but a tiny bit of metal or stone is left at the top of the building and the mission will fail bc you can't get to it .

The game has a heat system but its very annoying bc it will trigger in missions where you have to be aggressive so the game will just keep spawning more enemies than you have ammo. The game gives you the second armor upgrade SUPER late in the game , only when there's 2 areas left , so most of the game you are very squishy.

A big problem of this game is that sometimes it leans heavily into 3rd person combat when it should be going all in on the building destruction . Some main missions will fail randomly , like when you're trying to evacuate civilians from bombing only for one to randomly die across the mission zone. The only way I found I could complete that mission was by trying to find that civilian 1st . In another mission you'll have to drive through a zone that is getting heavily bombed while a bunch of your npc allies get in the way and crash into you the entire time.

In one of the final missions you need to meet some marauders to join forces , but when you go to their area ( which is a 5 minute drive from the closest safe zone) they will always attack you , forcing you to kill like 30 marauders until you can get to the top of a mountain and start a mission where you then become allied ( idk why the devs couldn't make them friendly since u have an ally who is a marauder who probably should just radioed them to not shoot them .


There are no checkpoints in most of the main missions, so if you die you need to retry it from the start. Some of your deaths will be no fault of your own bc the game will decide its a good idea to launch an exploding car at you or jettison a piece of debris at you from a falling building you're rather far from.


For a 2018 remaster of a 2009 game this looks like an early ps3 game at best. The game will also randomly crash for no apparent reason,(which is a especially annoying since it happened twice when I was doing the final mission )

Despite all of its many flaws I still enjoyed the game enough to keep playing because of its destruction mechanics, there should be more games that have good destruction sims.

I'd still recommend playing this game if you can get it at a heavy discount, can temper your expectations, play it on a low difficulty setting, avoid the driving side missions, and get quality of life mods.

In my honest opinion, despite Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered being from 2009, then remastered in 2018, it is indubitably a splendorous satisfying cathartic re-playable game. And yeah I would definitely recommend this game, especially to those who looking or needing blow off a bit of steam. Which they can do committing some good ole therapeutic destructive fun!
