Early Access Review
Banging a Demon... For Research Purposes of course!

Something that intrigues me is how this little elf creates one of the best excuses for wanting to have "some fun" with a demon... Science? Studies? Pfft, all excuses!

She could well win an Oscar for her performance... Anyway, we have a nice erotic hidden-gem in our hands.

Story

Evi is a student at the University of Magical Arts. She recently found out about a disciplinary experiment related to summoning beings from another world. Discovering that this experiment has been suspended, she decides to explore the abandoned laboratory complex used for such studies and find out more about it.

It starts with a simple story... Like any erotic game, it's a little confusing if you pay attention to the introduction the game offers, but I see this as something necessary to expand it later on, since in the past the tale was something much simpler and easier to understand.

At the moment, I haven't seen any problems with the story in terms of errors or anything that doesn't make sense. There's not much else to talk about, since it's clear that the focus here is the adult content, as well as the puzzles. It will be a pleasant surprise to see an expansion of the story later on though.

Gameplay

The main focus is on exploring the laboratory complex and solving the puzzles, as well as being rewarded with sexy outfits and different positions that you can use with the demons to mate.

Everything is very well done. The puzzles are simple but well elaborated, the environment is very well constructed, nothing repetitive or that makes you feel empty in the place, but the place itself is very confusing at many times... I think that for most of the game I was lost in what to do rather than solving puzzles.

Right after you've had a good time with the devil, Evi tells you that she needs to find a explanation, but she doesn't say exactly what to do, I only found out that you have to mate with the demon again, but even after that, there's not even a hint that something has opened or changed, not even a sound effect.

I spent a good part of the game exploring all the places, which are quite big, trying to figure out what I should do next. It shouldn't be too easy in this aspect, but there could be a sound when you clear a place or complete something as a hint.

I don't really like how you have to hold down Shift for Evi to walk, I can understand it in games like Half-Life 1, but here it doesn't make much sense to me and feels weird. It would be better if it was a click to switch between each one, or at least an option to do so.

Speaking of which, the movement is great. I remember before it was quite strange, where Evi slid around a lot, but now it seems they've adjusted it a bit... I prefer the old one, since this one isn't as good. Before, she turned to one side or the other in a very unique and realistic way, but she also slid so much that she looked like she was walking on ice.

Graphics

What stands out most in many games, this is no exception here. Let's forget about the lighting or atmosphere for a moment and talk about the models, since that was something that really stood out for me. They are so well done and really suit the realistic atmosphere, even though they have a different style. I just loved how unique Evi looks, as well as the demons.

Another thing they've done well is the atmosphere, it really does feel like it all belongs to a magical institution, there could be more unique things, maybe a few things inspired by Harry Potter? But everything is perfect as it is.

The environment is very well constructed, there are some similar things here and there like the bookshelves, but some you notice have books in different orders, some open, others of a different color, etc. A great job, giving the place a bit more life and variation.

Audio

There's not much to talk about here, I only noticed one piece of music in the game, it's good and does its job well. It goes perfectly with the ambient sounds of the place we're in, an unknown place, but full of mystery.

Personal Study has voice acting in the intro, which is perfect. The rest of the game doesn't have more at the moment, which I honestly don't mind, but it would be another pleasant surprise to see more in some scenes.

Verdict

Personal Study does a great job of mixing erotic content with puzzles and an environment full of details. In terms of adult content, it has great potential because you can use different poses, as well as partners of different sexes. Everything becomes perfect with the high-quality animations.

Score:
8.6

Strong Points:

+ A captivating and unique story.
+ Simple but well-crafted puzzles.
+ A richly detailed environment.
+ Excellent sound effects and voice acting.
+ Evi :3

Weak Points:

+ Strange and unrealistic movement.
+ There are no hints or sound effects showing what to do next.
+ No achievements :(

Note: Some strong/weak points do not affect the final score. Some have been placed here because they are not very important/necessary themselves.

Note²: The review has been translated from my original review written in Portuguese (Brazil). Even though I did my best to correct and convert some slangs used, I'm sorry if something looks sloppy or amiss.

As with all reviews, this is my opinion on what I thought of the game. If you find it interesting, I recommend you buy and play it to see if it's worth it or not youself.
