It slaps.

The gameplay is satisfying and offers a large amount of freedom and fun, and the real-time battles with the ATB mix are great. It rewards exploiting enemies' weaknesses well, but you can still beeline some stuff if you just want to bonk-bonk your way through. Synergy attacks fix the issue from the Remake episode, as switching characters is now much more rewarding.

We can finally bury the old "They don't do minigames in RPGs anymore" complaint, as this game is full to the brim with them. On top of that, the whole thing is really pretty, with great character designs, cinematics, voice-overs, FXs, locations, and general aesthetics. The post-game content is also very generous.
The story is good, though I imagine the new take from the remake might not be to everyone's taste.

Not much else to say—it's a very solid game and quite possibly one of the best J-RPGs in recent years.

On the downside, the game can get tiresome if you can't resist the urge to complete every checklist and little gauge. There's a lot of content, and it might get repetitive for some.
