As a CDL holder I can say genuinely that this truly is a simulator. My favorite thing about it is having the ability to drive trucks I've driven in the past. You can make it as much of a simulation you want thanks to the settings and mods.

I had originally got this game years ago before I was a CDL holder. When I went to start my private lessons, we began with backing maneuvers. I had put about 100 hours on the simulator over the years, and it's authentic enough that beyond what the instructor was teaching me, I had a genuine understanding of what needed to be done. True story, he had asked me if I had ever done this before. I didn't have the balls to tell him that I on and off played truck sim on my PC.

The trucks are authentic, the interiors are authentic, even the AI traffic (with the help of some mods) is authentic enough to get you properly aggravated as you would be on the road.

I mainly use this now to keep up with some backing scenarios because my current work involves drop zones and I don't get the opportunity to jack around things anymore.

A wonderful thing I want to add is that if you have a VR headset, you can pair it to the game using the experimental branch and adding the correct launch parameter. For Quest 3, you choose oculus and then add -oculus. Airlink works great. If you're crashing it's because you have to disable your mods and enable/order them again. This sim had me so fooled into thinking I was at work that occasionally I would find myself reaching for switches on the dash, light switches etc. You can setup the buttons on a G920 so that you don't need to interact with a keyboard to play the game. Put your mouse in a good spot and you're golden. You can even get a cheap shift knob on Amazon that has the range/splitter switches, enable throttle/clutch shift and jump in that W9 to float those gears as you would on the road.

I highly recommend it. Even if you're just looking for a game that allows you to just pass the time and you enjoy games that involve cruising around. If you're as aspiring truck driver, this game will help prepare you to go out and do it. If you are one, you're sick like me and want to draw on your coloring book on your day off, flip off the DOT in the median with no consequences, you wont regret it.
