Nothing seemed to threaten the serene happiness of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. But there was a being in the world who dreamed only of how to spoil everything God had done. This being was Satan, the worst enemy of God and a fierce hater of everything good and kind.

And so one day the serpent, who was more cunning than all the creatures created by God, at the instigation of Satan approached Eve and asked her:

- Is it true that God forbade you and Adam to eat the fruits of all these beautiful trees that grow around?

- Of course not, - Eve answered the snake. - God allowed us to eat the fruit of any tree except the one growing in the middle of the garden. And about this tree He said that if we eat its fruit, we will die.

- No, you will not die, - the snake said ingratiatingly. - God told you a lie. He simply does not want people to become equal to Him. After all, having tasted the fruits of this wonderful tree, you will become as wise as He Himself. That is why God did not allow you to eat them.

And then, as if for the first time, Eve saw the fruit, under the weight of which the branches of the forbidden tree were bending. It seemed to Eve that she had never seen anything better in her life. The aroma of the fruit tickled her nostrils, and her hand, as if by itself, reached out to the branch to pluck the fruit from this amazing tree. And the thought that she could become as wise as God turned Eve's head. Eve no longer thought about what she was doing - she made up her mind: she plucked the forbidden fruit and not only tasted it herself, but also treated Adam,

Contrary to their expectations, people, having tasted the forbidden fruits, felt not wise and all-knowing, but unhappy and ashamed. After all, they disobeyed God, their wise Creator and loving Friend.

Evening came, but Adam and Eve, contrary to custom, did not hurry to meet God. The thought of a treacherous and unworthy act tormented them. And they suddenly felt ashamed of their nakedness, which they had not noticed before and were not at all embarrassed about. They somehow made clothes for themselves from large leaves and hid in the thicket of the trees of paradise.

Previously, Adam and Eve had been impatiently awaiting the moment when such a beloved and desired voice would be heard in paradise - the voice of their Creator. Now they were awaiting this moment with fear. And now, finally, they heard God call:

- Adam, where are you?

Adam and Eve emerged from the thicket and stood before God - for the first time they averted their eyes from their Creator and did not dare to look at the One whose likeness they were to be. For the first time in their lives they experienced the suffering of meeting God.
