FAQ

This page is for questions I am very, very frequently asked. Please read through this page carefully before sending me any asks or messages. If I’ve already answered something, you don’t need to double-check. In fact, I am begging you not to double-check with me. This page exists to minimize the amount of time wasted for both of us!

If you’re about to send me an ask/message that includes the phrase “I know you already covered this in your FAQ, but…” please, delete the message and just trust your best judgement to interpret this page and my answers thereon. I get the same questions over and over and I’m about to just start ignoring the repeats. It’s exhausting. Spare us both the indignity. Thank you.

Next, let me say that my inbox is always open anyway. You can send me an ask or message anytime. I’m happy to answer any sort of inquiry (provided it’s not already answered on this page) or even just chitchat. Be warned, though:

  • If you don’t want your ask published, please specify if you want me to answer it privately (or simply message me instead), because I tend to publish most asks I get.
  • Even though I’m totally open to all replies and mentions, they tend to get lost in the noise of my fast-moving activity feed and I don’t always see them. If it’s imperative that you get in touch with me ASAP, please send me an ask or message to make sure I don’t miss it.

What the heck does “She/Sir” in your bio mean?

She/her pronouns, but with masculine titles and other modes of address. I encourage you to mix and match with the masc/femme for me.

Do you still do free requests?

No, not anymore. I know, major bummer, but this is out of fairness to those who support me through art commissions or my Patreon.

If you really want to request some sketches, consider joining my Patreon, linked below and in my pinned post. For only $3/month, you’ll get access to my Discord server where I draw requests and share exclusive content and behind-the-scenes bonuses.

Can I commission you to draw [x]?

I’m happy to draw:

  • Fanart, original characters, and even ttrpg characters that have no visual references
  • Ships, including OC/Canon or OC/OC
  • Anthros and furries
  • Real or fantasy animals
  • Armor, robots, & mechs
  • Cartoon blood & gore
  • Pinup girls

I won’t draw:

  • Nudity, smut, and shown or implied sex acts
  • “SFW fetishes” like feet, inflation, transformations, Wonderbread, and other technicalities
  • Real people (including yourself)
  • Pedo/incest ships
  • Extreme/realistic gore
  • Gross-out humor
  • Fanart of smutty source material (ex. a fic)
  • IRL politics (even if I agree with them; I don’t want anything to circulate and get me targeted by hate groups)

Please check my commission info page for a full list of what I will and won’t draw, as well as all my terms and conditions and an updated availability. Keep in mind that it ultimately comes down to personal preference and I can refuse a sale for any reason.

Can I repost/share your art?

You can share it on sites I’m not on, like Twitter, Reddit, Pinterest, Instagram, or any regional/non-English-language site; just please link back to my Tumblr! This is an honor system, of course, but it’s still the polite thing to do. Seriously, go nuts with this. I’m no stranger to having my art reposted at this point.

Can I use your art as my icon/header/etc?

Absolutely you can! Please credit me in your blog description. For other sites or apps, like Discord, please name/link my Tumblr somewhere on your profile.

I’m okay with people using my art for icons and headers on RP blogs, but please don’t also use crops of it for reaction images in the post body, unless you’re sourcing that, too.

Can I get your Nyquil Shimp tattooed on me?

Yes, you can get a tattoo of the Shimp. Please stop asking me about this. It’s okay. It’s fine. I’m not going to hunt you down and hit you with a DMCA. I have been asked this question a hundred times. You don’t need a personalized blessing from me and you really shouldn’t also tattoo my Tumblr URL on your body either. Show the tattoo artist this answer if they need permission. You’re cool. Go for it.

What else can I use your art for?

My policy is: Don’t make money off my art, and don’t use my art to promote your business. I can’t cover every conceivable use-case or caveat here, but that’s the bottom line.

The list is very short. Here’s what I allow, with credit:

  • Icons & headers, as mentioned above
  • Playlist album art
  • Any personal wallpapers or personal IRL printables
  • Reposts/shares to other sites besides Tumblr

Do NOT use my art for:

  • Icons & headers for any business/professional account (i.e. anything you make money from, including Twitch or Youtube)
  • Icons & headers for an entire Discord server (using it for your own profile is fine)
  • Pins, shirts, or other merch that you’re selling
  • Any other reproduction of my art that other people are paying you for
  • ANY TUMBLR REPOSTS

If something isn’t listed here, just consider whether or not you’re using it for a business, side hustle, etc., and if you are, don’t use it. I don’t do licensing and I’m not associated with your business.

Remember: if you’d like to commission me for your icon/header art, I would be more than happy to do so. I have special pricing available for square social icons!

Are you ever going to draw [XYZ character/ship/fandom] again?

Maybe. But you can turn that maybe into a yes if you commission me!

Are you on any other sites?

I’m on Patreon: @t00thpasteface

I also have a Redbubble: toothpaste-face

I occasionally post fics on AO3: RiskyBiznu

I’m @t00thpasteface on Twitter but I no longer update that account, and @t00thpasteface on Bluesky just to squat the url.

My reblog blog is @scrumptiouscthulhu!

Do you have any BYF/DNI info, or rules for interaction?

Nope. I don’t have the time to vet every single person who engages with my stuff or follows me. Just play nice or get lost!

That being said, I do have a couple boundaries about what I’m willing to engage with; I’d ask that you keep these in mind, so you don’t take it personally when I ignore something.

One, I don’t do tag games, chain asks, etc. No hard feelings; I just don’t like them and I will ignore them without exception.

Two, please don’t message me about site drama, including people posting/vaguing about me, regardless of what they’re saying. It’s really none of my business, and I don’t want to stoke any fires, either! If it’s really nasty, just report it. Nothing good will come of telling me about it except making me feel bad, so I’d rather just be blissfully unaware.

I want to post some art/writing inspired by your stuff. Is that alright?

Go ahead! I’m happy to give shout-outs to anyone I might’ve inspired.

However, don’t trace my art, even with credit, and don’t use my stuff in an AI. I would like to avoid people mistaking an impostor for my own work.

All gift art/fic I reblog will be under the tag #m1nty fresh gift art. You’re free to @ me, but sending an ask or DM is much less likely to get lost in the noise of my activity feed. If you order something from my Redbubble store and take photos, @ me in the post, and I’ll reblog that, too!

I love your catcatfish design and illustrations. Can I make my own catcatfish, or use one as a fursona?

No, you may not. If you do, they will not be “catcatfish”. What makes a catcatfish a catcatfish is the reason I draw them, not the way I draw them. I’d ask that you read this post I made about the topic.

For your own personal projects and fun cute ideas, I encourage you to invent your own species, especially since I’m not even the first person to make a literal “cat fish” species and definitely not the first to design a fish with legs. But designing your own species for your own purposes is a wonderful way to exercise your mind and your creative talents. I think anyone can do it. Developing the catcatfish has been a source of great fun and fulfillment for me, and I would ask that you respect my reasons behind this project by leaving it to me instead of attempting to co-opt parts of it for your own tastes and purposes. If people cannot respect this, I will cease sharing my work. Thank you.

What program(s) do you use?

When drawing digitally, I do the bulk of my work in Paint Tool Sai with a Wacom Intuos tablet.

I use Photoshop CS5 for certain effects to give a little extra pop– color balancing, gradient maps, hue & saturation tweaks, that sort of thing. Any text/typography is done in Photoshop, as well as more complicated effects like motion/radial blurs, color halftones, texture overlays, etc.

I post behind-the-scenes stuff on my patron Discord for my most complex works, if that’s something you’d like to see more of.

Can you tell me a little bit about yourself? Gender, sexuality, mental illnesses, the works?

I’ve got an about page!

If you really are curious about innocuous little factoids like my music taste, favorite foods, etc., I’d be delighted to talk about them. My inbox is open!

Hey, I recognize your art! Didn’t you run that one askblog…?

Probably! I used to run a few askblogs from 2012 to 2017. I also had an artblog and a personal blog under different URLs. Between all of those, I occasionally pulled some decent numbers.

If you used to follow an old blog of mine and you want to say hey for any reason– maybe we used to talk a lot, or you were just a frequent flier in an askblog’s inbox– don’t be shy!! Again, I’m always open to random asks. Don’t be a stranger!
