Regarding Loid, Albrecht, and The Great Indifference, a horrible, terrible, DELICIOUS ‘What-If’ has come to me and cannot leave me alone.
What if Loid gets face to face with TWO Albrechts. Pull a good ol’ “One of us is fake, and you’re the one with the gun.” But Loid can ask all the questions he wants– Wally has seen Albrecht’s head from the inside, he assumedly knows everything Albrecht does. There’s no trivia question The Great Indifference will get wrong. BUT. It doesn’t perfectly mimic behavior. It is manipulative as hell (and tbh Albrecht is too) but I like to think there’s one line that it would cross; a line that Loid knows Albrecht wouldn’t.
“I love you, My Loid.”
And it’s beautiful, for one, glorious heartbeat, to hear it articulated so plainly after DECADES of service, of PARTNERSHIP… But Loid knows Albrecht better than anyone, even The Void. And inscrutable, opaque, dramatic fucking Albrecht Entrati wouldn’t say that. Not here, not now. He couldn’t even say it to a recording after acknowledging he’d never told Loid what he needed to hear. So Loid shoots. And tries not to think about how THAT is the thing that convinced him of which one was lying.
(Heavily inspired by @agoddamn ’s Fics on AO3, can’t get enough of their stuff, cheers!)
