This gifset is of a scene from Vikings, Season 1, Episode 5: Raid. In this gif, Athelstan sits, his face lit in warm yellow by the hearthfire he and others (offscreen) sit around. He stammers sheepishly, perturbed by a previous exchange in the group, "Well.. then," His gaze momentarily dips as he searches for something to move the conversation along and distract from the tense mood, "uh.. how was the Earth created?" He asks, nervous but willing to listen to the Vikings' different religious mythology. His eyes search the group for someone who will answer. His mouth slightly curves up in a sheepishly hopeful smile.

"The earth was made from the Ymir's flesh," Helga answers. Athelstan's smile falters. He turns to Lagertha (offscreen) as his brows begin to pulls together in a confused frown before he turns to regard Helga, a question on his face as he curiously listens. Helga sits across the fire form him, on a seat above the ground. The fire lights her powerfully from below. Floki also sits lower, at her beside. He looks up at Helga and then slowly settles his head into her lap. Helga holds her fingers over her sternum and leans her head forward with a bright intensity as she explains, "And oceans from his blood, when the Titan was thawed from the ice."

"The gods," Helga emphasizes, a reverent lilt to her voice and seriousness about her expression. Athelstan listens to Helga speak intently. His mouth is just slightly open, his teeth rested on the lower lip as he stares in something beginning to resemble horror. "..they made hills out of his bones, and trees from his hairs,.." Helga continues.

Helga reflexively rests her elbow on Floki's back and takes her fingers to his hair, drawing little circles against his head. Floki smiles, his eyes shifting down towards what little of Helga he can see with his cheek rested on her knee. "And the sky dome is his skull," she says. Getting a broader view of the hut, Bjorn sits to Athelstan's left and Gyda to his right. Lagertha beside Gyda. All three vikings beside the priest watch Helga intently. Athelstan too. At a table further from the fire, Ragnar sits. He stares distantly forward as he absently fingers the rim of his bone cup. "and out of his brain they shaped the welling dark clouds." Helga continues.

Having finished her narration, Helga lowers her head to look at Floki and sighs, bolstered and calmed by the story of her realm's origin. She opens her fingers and lays her whole palm on Floki's head. Floki blinks as he looks in Lagertha's direction. Lagertha puts something in her mouth and smirks as she turns to look at Athelstan who stares forward in stun.

"So,..." Floki muses, slightly lifting his head from Helga's lap as he looks up at Athelstan. Helga above smiles amusedly and wrinkles her lips in something of an unspoken question. "How do you think it was made," Floki asks, finally spitting the title, "Priest?" at him. Despite the ire of his word, he smiles, sure that he is about to catch Athelstan in a trap. Helga grins at Athelstan, eager and anticipating his response. A gleam of mischief in her eyes. Lagertha, one arm rested on her knee, grins as she brings her cup up to her mouth while she watches Athelstan - who sits between her two children. Bjorn and Gyda turn in sync to look up at the priest as he lifts a single shoulder in a non-committal shrug. The hands he holds between his knees turn, the pinky of one held between the fingers of the other. His expression is sheepish and uncertain. His gaze dips briefly to Bjorn's face but quickly settles nearer to his lap and then finally he turns to Gyda, opening his mouth though he ultimately says nothing. Lagertha looks over at Ragnar.
