Arguably, we might not interpret eating the fruit of knowledge as a sin in and of itself, it’s more that becoming aware of the possibility of evil created the conditions for sin. Another way of thinking about it is that Eve assented to the knowledge of evil (the abscence of god) on the behalf of humanity, and Mary assented to god’s reunion with creation, on the behalf of humanity.
