What the world does not know is that tents kill children after their hearts freeze inside them from the of cold.
The people of Gaza have the right to live with dignity, away from tents.
ALTThe countdown to the new year brings more brutality in Gaza. Israel is banning thirty-seven aid organizations at midnight, January 1 2026.
Even though the October ceasefire agreement stipulated that 600 trucks of aid must enter Gaza every day, Israel has blocked an average of 300-500 trucks per day. Now Israel is banning aid from all over the world on the basis that these organizations refused to submit lists with detailed information on all of their Palestinian employees.
I know that it's impossible to truly comprehend the enormity of death and destruction in Gaza. We cannot wrap our minds around the numbers of the martyred, injured, displaced, homeless, and starving.
Perhaps simplifying and presenting in fractions might help. Imagine being in a room of 33 people. Half are children. Now imagine an explosion hits. One of those people is dead. Three are disabled by injury. 30 of you discover your homes are destroyed.
Ahmed is one of the children. His home is destroyed, and his family is living in a tent that has been repeatedly flooded by winter storms. They have all been sick for weeks and unable to recover because they cannot afford medicine. He is disabled but there is no treatment left in Gaza. He has only raised €6,131 so far, because only 295 people have donated to him.
In 2025, Ahmed has been forcibly displaced multiple times, making the distance by foot while carrying all of his belongings because his family could not afford fuel. He has been starved and shot at while trying to get food. He has been denied access to clean water for months. He has been kept up with gunfire, floods, and illness.
Now Israel is banning aid organizations. Every time aid is blocked, the price of supplies soars. Price gouging reaches incomprehensible levels as dying people pay anything for enough food to survive another day.
Please, please help Ahmed (@ahmedaldani333) and his family escape. Things are going to get worse in the new year, and I fear deeply for him and his family.
With the arrival of the New Year, everyone is happy, watching television, feeling warm and safe, and eating sweets. But here in Gaza, we are sad, cold, hungry, tired, and sick because we have no basic necessities. We have no healthy food, no bread, and no safe place to live. We are sitting in our completely torn tent, without a roof. It's about to collapse because its poles are broken, and the weather today is bitterly cold and harsh.

ALTIsrael is building 48 military sites throughout the Gaza Strip, reducing the area of the Gaza Strip to less than half its current size, and Israeli government officials are planning to build a settlement in the northern Gaza Strip.
Since the so-called ceasefire, Israel has established more than 48 military sites in Gaza City on the homes of displaced civilians. Israel has not stopped the war; rather, it kills and commits massacres every day, and every day it advances the yellow line it drew, thereby occupying more than half of the Gaza Strip.
For two years the war hasn't stopped. When a ceasefire was supposedly reached—a sham—thousands of people died, and they continue to die daily. The crossings remain closed, and the goods, supplies, and aid that are allowed in are sold at exorbitant prices. Israel hasn't stopped the war. We are still suffering. Please help us. ALTWe're not living... we're barely surviving. In a tattered tent amidst the bitter cold, we're struggling to stay alive. The rain has shown us no mercy, seeping into our tent from every side, flooding the ground, soaking our bedding, and drenching everything we own. We have no dry place, no warm blanket, not even a single moment of rest.
Two weeks ago, a fierce wind tore away a large part of our tent, leaving us exposed to the elements, at the mercy of the wind and rain. We shiver from the cold, trying to appear strong, but the truth is we're on the verge of collapse because the cold and illnesses are relentless.

You know that Mr Rogers thing of 'look for the helpers'? How many times has someone, facing the end, done something tiny and fragile and maybe hopeless just to try and help someone else? Whether it works or not. How many people went to their graves at least trying? That has to say something about us. As a people. As monstrous as we sometimes (perhaps often) are, so many times we were also Whoever saves one life, saves the whole world. And sometimes you can't save one life, sometimes it doesn't work, sometimes there's no getting out of this for anyone, but ... try anyway. Because it matters anyway. And maybe no one will ever know. But maybe also some day more than a century down the line, maybe some idiot will be crying into her coffee because of what you died trying.
Sometimes helping isn't heroic. It's quiet, ordinary, and unseen. But choosing not to look away - especially when it would be easier - is still a form of responsibility.
