Wilderness
04:59
|
|||
|
I’m the keeper of a wilderness
Alone in this
Available to the total
I’m a holder of this nothingness
With a reason to not let go
And a mind of obliteration
How far we've fallen
How much farther we have come
We the people of flawed union
Unjust in love
And domestic resignation
Insecure in our blessings
Ordained and undecided
Uncommonly defensive
How far we've fallen
How much farther we have come

Hypnotized
03:20
|
|||
|
Held back
From something
Just out of reach
So tempting and foreign
Somehow real
Invisible
Not quite right
Temporary
Never-ending
Frightening
Somehow real
Changeless
Boundless
Hypnotized
Categorically unrecognized
Hard to hold
Welcoming
So, so bright
Somehow real
Changeless
Boundless
Hypnotized

Black Gold
03:45
|
|||
|
You were born outside
In the natural present
You find artificial light
Very unpleasant
With a mind so big
So many unknowns
Don’t pledge your allegiance
To dinosaur bones
And on the back of this map
There’s a bigger X to dig
For black gold
In a purblind life
Lost and afraid
The sun will reveal
What the darkness betrayed
With a heart so small
Alone in the deep
Whatever you find
Is a treasure to keep
And on the back of this map
There’s a bigger X to dig
For black gold

Hemlock
03:10
|
|||
|
Rise and shine
Look around
It's a new beginning
Learning how to die
As an alibi
Invincible
We become
Like a mother ocean
Now who's it gonna be?
‘Cause it's you or me
This town's too big for either of us
And we're a long long way from home
The cellar door
Opens up
Like a desert flower
The shadow shines a light
On this unfair fight
Left alone
I resort
To my devices
And this compass rose
Points where the hemlock grows
This town's too big for either of us
And we're a long long way from home
This town's too big for either of us
And the Northern star is hidden where we are

Camera Obscura
03:25
|
|||
|
If you put an obscure camera in my way
I might take a hammer to it
Or chuck it in the bay
We could dig down in the dirt and the clay
And bury it forever
Or dig it up someday
When upside-down is the right way up
It's hard to see the bottom
When upside-down is the right way up
It's hard
Just put an obscure camera in my hand
Let's wait until the moonrise comes
Making its demand
Let's dig down in the rocks and the sand
We can build a little castle
And make a final stand
When upside-down is the right way up
It's hard to see the bottom
When upside-down is the right way up
It's hard

Lebanon Cedar
03:03
|
|||
|
I got this thing in the seventies
I tried for years to give it back
Then, one day I couldn’t find it anymore
So it went on the attack
Then I gave it to my children
I tried in vain to take it back
It drove them into desperation
Now we’re stuck in this shellac
Not dying, and not quite living
Not guilty, but we beg to be forgiven
Not in pieces, but we’re not whole either
Still standing like a Lebanon cedar

Wisdom Tooth
03:21
|
|||
|
I cannot tell a lie
However hard I try
I cannot tell a lie
I’d rather solve the problem now
Than look like a nice guy
I cannot tell a lie
When it determines if I live or if I die
I just don't have a choice
When I’m low or if I’m high
I’ve forgotten all the questions
I ask myself
And there's nothing left to wonder
But wonder itself
I cannot tell the truth
Since I pulled my wisdom tooth
I cannot tell the truth
And words don't have the grab they had
In the bloom of youth
I’ve forgotten all the questions
I ask myself
And there's nothing left to wonder
But wonder itself
I gave away the volumes
On my shelf
Got no room for anything
But space itself
