when your trans activism is solely centered around binary perisex trans people, it's very fucking noticeable.
Using they/them for someone you explicitly know does not use they/them is and always will be misgendering and it's always a fucked up thing to do. Especially if you are also trans.
Anonymous asked:
"you can argue both are fucked up all you want" what is it about this that makes it sound like they dont actually think its fucked up when its transmascs ToT
genderkoolaid answered:
I mean they’ve all but outright said that. In earlier asks they kept emphasizing that trans men are MEN who’s alienation from feminism inherently couldn’t be as bad as women’s alienation from feminism. And they have not actually engaged with any of the harms trans men experience, or any of my explanations on why silencing ANY victim of misogyny is harmful. They just keep doubling down on their insistence that it’s worse for trans women because it “just is” and saying anything about it being equally bad (not worse! just equal!!!) makes me untrustworthy as a transfeminist.
Its been essentially me going “okay fine I’ll put in the effort to explain to you as directly as possible why I said that and why this framing is important and I’ll give you these resources you can go read to get a better understanding of my position” and then responding with “but trans men are MEN and trans women are WOMEN so it’s just WORSE!!!!!!”
they just don’t want to talk! they want to yell at me until I give in and say that yes trans women are the most oppressedest gender in the world and no one could ever possibly understand their suffering and i am becoming an ascetic to repent for DARING to suggest that trans men could ever suffer in any way even close to trans women. they think the very normal thing I said is “preposterous” because they don’t want to try and understand it. they have simply written out in their mind the possibility that excluding trans men from feminism could be as materially harmful as it is for trans women. because they are not thinking about material harm done, they are focused on. well Jude Doyle said it best, not that anon will internalize any of this:
“It is just never safe to be trans, no matter how you slice it. It is never safe to be any kind of gender-marginalized person within a patriarchy, and it never will be. That is why it’s imperative for cis feminists to reckon with transmasculinity: People are being exposed to sexist oppression, but left out of the circle of feminist soldarity and concern. You “affirm” our genders by not giving a shit about us, which is not affirming, but, pretty explicitly, punishing somebody for being transgender. And why? Because you don’t want to deal with an extra data point. Because people’s actual oppression matters less than keeping your theory perfectly coherent. And that — I’m sorry — is TERF shit. It’s the core TERF fallacy: People’s experience of gender conflicts with your theory of gender, so you throw out the people and keep the theory.”
