CHARLES FRANCIS: BUYER BEWARE!!!
CHARLES FRANCIS: BUYER BEWARE!!!
I recently bought a leather belt from Charles Frances. The entire experience has been a nightmare. A root canal would be more pleasant.
For starters, it took 16 days from order to finally being delivered. They used some unheard-of shipping outfit from CHINA, and when it gets to the US it is transferred to USPS, BUT no USPS tracking number is provided so the post office can do nothing. You are left in the dark for over two weeks. Nowhere on the Charles Frances website does it disclose that the product is being DROP-SHIPPED from CHINA!
After finally receiving the belt, the wrong size was sent. It was supposed to be a 38, but it was much larger. A size 38 is typically 45 ins. long, but the belt sent was 49 ins.
Upon examining the belt construction closer, I discovered that there was a critical flaw in the design and construction. At the buckle, the attachment is via a single rivet through one of the holes in the webbing of the belt, instead of being entirely enclosed in leather and double stitched, as most quality belts are constructed. That belt will fail at the buckle attach in no time. Therefore, I did not request an exchange. I requested a full refund.
From that point on I received the grand run-around. ‘Oh, you will have to return it to our fulfillment center IN CHINA!’ Cost to return quoted at $40-$50 ! Gee, pay $50 to receive a $50 refund? “Such a deal.” Again, nowhere on the Charles Frances website does it disclose that the product must be returned to CHINA!
The package return address was in Georgia, USA. I offered to return it to Georgia, but no dice.
“If you prefer a full refund, you’re welcome to return the belt to our international fulfillment center. Please note that return shipping costs (typically $40–$50 USD) would be at your expense, as stated in our Return & Exchange Policy.
📦 Return Address:
China, Zhejiang Province
Ningbo City, Yinzhou District
Shounan Street, No. 213
Taikang Middle Road 315100”
After some more word-salad go-around, I received this offer:
“I’ve personally brought your case to my manager. As a gesture of goodwill, we can offer a 30% refund on your current purchase. We truly wish we could offer more, but due to tight margins and operational costs, this would be our final offer under the circumstances. We genuinely appreciate your willingness to find a fair resolution.” So, they will give me $15 to disappear. Not a chance. I now really want a full refund.
In retrospect, I should have known not to buy from a vendor with no phone number. They insulate themselves nicely. Apparently, they are in UK. A kind description of the Charles Francis website would be “deceptive” at best and “fraudulent” at worst.
The internet is fraught with fly-by-night sellers of Chinese junk. Buyer Beware. I would not touch them with a 10 ft pole.
