Unable to get refund from UK purchase and customer support phone number charges £100 for a phone call

Bought from Meater directly in the UK but had to return it due to it being a duplicated gift.
Had to pay own postage at £10 for tracked delivery but after 3 weeks no refund was received and needed to follow up with Meater.

There is no way to contact Meater via email from UK and had to call them on a +1 overseas number. A 25 minute phone call cost me £116 from UK to the phone number provided by Meater for help and support. Was promised my refund in 10 working days but didn’t happen. So had to call them again for another 25 minute call at another £116 bill chasing up my refund.

So overall it’s cost me £10 in postage and £220 in phone calls chasing up a refund that should have been refunded automatically.

Strongly advise against buying directly from Meater if you are UK based and instead buy from a UK 3rd party retailer.

Whilst customer service on the phone was good, the fact that there is no email to contact customer services and you can only call an overseas number at an extortionate cost is very poor customer services, so avoid.

Good day, Sarah. We’ve taken a look internally and can confirm that your refund was successfully processed yesterday. Once a refund is issued from our side, the timeframe for the funds to appear back in your account depends on your bank and payment provider. In most cases, this can take a few business days, though some banks may take slightly longer to finalize and post the transaction.

We completely understand how surprising this situation has been, especially given the additional postage costs and the time spent following up. That’s certainly not the kind of experience anyone expects when returning a product, and we truly appreciate your patience while this was being resolved.

For future reference, dedicated support options for UK and Ireland customers (including the correct UK contact number) can be found here:
https://support.meater.com/hc/en-us/articles/45453407670555-MEATER-Support-for-UK-Ireland

If you don’t see the refund reflected in your account after several business days, please reach out again, and we’ll be glad to double-check the transaction details for you to ensure everything is fully settled.

Generally ok … but….

Generally, this product is fine. But it has two flaws. Firstly, the Bluetooth range is massively overstated. I have an Aga. The charging unit has to sit next to the Aga. If I move to my sitting room, about 6m away it loses connection. Contrast that with the stated 75m range. Nonsense. Second the remaining cook time calculation is ridiculous. On a long slow cook for pulled pork or beef it goes from 1 or 2 hours left, to ten minutes, to rest now in about 5 minutes. That algorithm needs a lot of work.

Good day, Maxwell. We appreciate you sharing this feedback and providing detailed observations. The behavior you’re describing isn’t what we expect, regarding the Bluetooth range, metal appliances like your Aga can significantly interfere with the signal, which is why the effective range can be much shorter than the stated 75 m in open-air conditions.

As for the remaining cook time, the algorithm estimates based on current probe readings, and on long, slow cooks, rapid changes can happen when the meat’s temperature accelerates toward target doneness. While this is normal under certain conditions, we understand it can be confusing.

A couple of tips to take into consideration, ensuring the probe is clean, fully charged, and the block has fresh batteries, can help improve stability. If you continue to experience an inconsistent connection, please reach out to us at support.meater.com with your MEATER model so we can review your setup and provide guidance to improve performance.

Longevtity and duration

After Charging the unit for 15-20 minutes and it failed to maintain contact at the worst possible time. I traded the battery out with a new battery, the unit again failed by losing connection. This product cost way too much to have this kind of reliablity.

Reply from MEATER

Good day, James. We appreciate you sharing this feedback and understand what you are feeling at the moment. This behavior is not expected, especially after allowing the unit time to charge and confirming a fresh battery. When a probe initially powers on but loses contact shortly after, even with a new battery, it typically points to the probe being unable to sustain a stable internal power level or signal during active use rather than a problem with the charger or app.

In these cases, continued connection drops are not resolved through additional charging time. The most effective resolution is to have the probe evaluated. Our team can review this quickly and confirm the best next steps based on the probe’s behavior.

Please reach out to us at support.meater.com with your MEATER model so we can assist further and help get you back to reliable cooks. We’ll be glad to take it from here.

Outstanding Support for Meater Pro XL Smart

I contacted customer support on December 30, 2025, at 3:30 PM after probe no. 2 for my Meater Pro XL Smart (with 4 probes) stopped working. I called from Norway using the Danish support number and was connected to Costa Rica, San José, where I spoke with an extremely friendly and helpful representative.

She immediately arranged for a replacement probe no. 2 to be sent to me. I was told I would receive an email confirmation with a tracking number and that the new probe would arrive within approximately 7 days.

Fortunately, I still have three other probes, so I can use the product on my turkey tomorrow on New Year’s Eve. Best of all, I did not have to return the entire product to the seller, which would have taken much longer.

I am very satisfied with both the product and the support. The Meater Pro XL Smart is a true must-have that I use a lot, and the customer service experience was absolutely fantastic.

Highly recommended!

Excellent support when things went wrong

How a company reacts when things go wrong is often more important than when everything is fine. On Christmas Day I was unable to establish a connection to my nearly new Meater Pro probe to be able to tell when our roast rib of beef was cooked. After troubleshooting on Boxing Day I ended up speaking to their support line (yes, they offer 365 day a year support) and an agent determined that the probe itself was faulty, but that I was covered by their warranty. A new probe arrived just now, less than 48 hrs after our conversation. Thank you Meater/Treager!

Good day, Graham

We’re sorry to hear this and appreciate you sharing your experience. We understand how disappointing it is when a product doesn’t meet expectations, especially regarding reliability and temperature performance. MEATER probes do have defined operating limits, and repeated exposure beyond them can affect functionality. Defective products, company refuses to help

This expensive thermometer stopped working, and tech support said I would have to buy a new one, even after they admitted it was defective. This company doesn’t stand by their products AT ALL.

The thermometer probe was always very inaccurate when it did work. It showed ambient oven temperatures at least 100 degrees cooler than the actual oven temperature, as verified by separate oven thermometers. Cook time estimates also fluctuated by 10 minutes throughout the cooking process. Come to find that other people have the same issue. The app also would send me notifications whenever I disable my phone’s Bluetooth, even if the app isn’t open and I don’t have an active cook going. Their tech support suggested I uninstall and reinstall the app, but that didn’t fix the issue. They had no other solutions to offer.

The app also requires a LOT of access to your phone and wifi network, even if you don’t want those features. It locks up and refuses to function if you don’t allow those privacy invasions.

Reply from MEATER

Brady, thanks for taking the time to spell this out. If a MEATER probe becomes unreliable and then stops working, it may be eligible under our limited warranty, depending on when/where it was purchased and your region.

On temperatures: MEATER’s ambient reading is taken at the probe near the food, so it won’t necessarily match an oven’s built‑in sensor or a thermometer placed elsewhere in the oven. The internal temperature is the primary measurement for doneness. Cook‑time estimates are also designed to update as the cook progresses based on the data coming in.

On the app side, MEATER uses Bluetooth for the live connection, so connection-related notifications can appear when that connection is interrupted or reestablished. We also understand the concern about permissions; those requests are tied to what the app needs to connect and to enable specific features on supported setups.

We invite you to contact us directly at 1- 888-407-0303 and determine whether a diagnosis or a replacement is the best solution for you.

Endless connection problems

Endless connection problems. We've had a new probe sent out due to connection isses, it worked twice, now on Christmas day same issue, no connection between the probe and the base. Videos just say to clean (which it is - it's new), or put in and out of the base, not easy when its 200 degrees! I wouldn't say it was that reliable when it does work, often going way over target temperature and still saying to rest more! Wouldnt recommend

Reply from MEATER

David, we’re really sorry this has been your experience, especially on a day like Christmas. From what you’re describing, it sounds like there may be an ongoing communication situation between the probe and the base, possibly related to hardware instability rather than cleanliness or placement, particularly since the probe is new and the same problem has repeated. The temperature overshooting and inaccurate rest guidance also point to unreliable data being transmitted during the cook, which understandably affects trust in the results. This is certainly not the level of reliability we aim to deliver. We strongly recommend contacting our Customer Support team directly at 1- 888-407-0303 so they can review the history of the replacement, assess whether the base or probe may be defective, and work with you on a proper resolution.

The website promises 10% discount but doesn't deliver

The website promises 10% discount on signing up for marketing email. The promised discount code didn't arrive. I called support, who after 30 minutes were unable to resolve this. They ended up suggesting I order at full price and phone them back after I received the product to claim a 10% refund. Zero confidence in that happening and no wish to spend another lengthy session on the phone begging for a refund. A useful insight into the company that destroys confidence in their support so probably better off not having one....

Love using it but the app needs a feature update

Love using it. I have the meater block with 4 probes. Last year the app had a screen that shows all 4 probes with Internal, Target and Ambient temperature and estimated cooking time. Then after an update the estimated cooking time was removed from this page. Now I have to scroll from probe 1 to probe 4 to see how much time is left for each probe. While not a major drawback, the app is not as friendly as it once was. I would appreciate it if the developers would please bring back estimated cooking time on the display that shows all 4 probes simultaneously.

Steven, Thanks for the kind words about your MEATER Block and for describing the change so clearly. On multi-probe cooks, that “all 4 probes” overview is meant to be the quick-glance screen, so having Internal / Target / Ambient and the estimated time remaining all in one place makes a lot of sense. If you’d like your request logged with the right app/device context, MEATER Support is available at 1-888-407-0303.

Do not waste your money

Do not waste your money. One of the sensors on the probe is measuring 8 degrees C less than the others, rendering it useless and I’m back to guess work. This is not a one off as happening every cook, always the same sensor

10 December 2025

Reply from MEATER

Mark, if the same sensor is reading 8°C lower on every cook, that strongly suggests a sensor fault rather than normal variation. MEATER probes should read consistently across all sensors, so a repeated mismatch means something isn’t functioning as it should. We’d really like to help you sort this out. Please reach out to us at support.meater.com so we can walk you through a proper diagnostic and confirm whether the sensor has failed. Once we verify what’s going on, we’ll guide you on the next steps to get this resolved.

Avoid

Avoid ! I got given a Meater probe as a gift 2 years ago. The first one malfunctioned after a couple of uses. Customer service was ok and agreed to replace the probe.
My new one is hit and miss whether it will connect, even when fully charged. Then the last 2 cooks which have been expensive cuts of beef, have been completely ruined. I cooked a 2kg rolled Sirloin today for 9 people, set the internal temperature to 50’ so it would get to 55 after resting, followed the instructions and prompts exactly and the beef was, again, well done and ruined! £70 and the time before which was an £80 Tomahawk too, ruined. Both well overdone and far from rare !!
Incredibly disappointing and I will never use it again. It literally ruined my day today and a meal I spent hours preparing.

Products have their problems and do not last.

I have got through 3 in 2 years as they don’t last. One of mine the probe stopped charging, another the probe came about and the glue separated between 2 parts of it, and now the 3rd time (brand new 7 months ago) and charger base has stopped working.
Though their service is great, every time I have dealt with their customer service they have sent me replacement parts, they still don’t last. Ultimately the product is not very good. Works well when cooking meat but you can’t rely on the product to work. Disappointed and likely to try an alternative product next time.

Poor build quality

The probe came apart when I was removing it from the meat. It now doesn’t work. It had been well used but not great as this was my second probe as the first one broke also. I have upgraded to the meater pro 2 block now that has wifi so hopefully that sorts out the connection issues 🤞🏻

Good day, Dan. Thank you for taking the time to share this. A probe coming apart when removing it from the meat is absolutely not the experience we want for you, especially after already having a previous probe fail. Situations like this are uncommon, however, we’re glad to hear you’ve upgraded to the MEATER Pro unit, and many users find the WiFi connectivity helps avoid the instability you experienced with earlier models. We truly hope it brings you the consistency you’ve been looking for.

If you’d ever like us to take a closer look at the failed probe, or want to share more about what happened, feel free to reach back out at +1 888-407-0303. We’re here and ready to help however we can.

Dreadful product

Reading some of the other reviews it seems like perhaps there’s been a recent quality issue. The probe doesn’t work more than it does - constant connectivity issues and regularly says the probe isn’t charged even when it’s been charging for days. It’s really hit and miss and honestly one of the most frustrating and dumb products I’ve ever owned. We sent it back to Meater and they said everything was fine - next cook - red flashing light. Terrible waste of money.

Reply from MEATER

Good day, Jonathon. Having a probe that works one day, fails the next, and constantly throws charging or connection errors is incredibly surprising, and it’s understandable that you’d feel the product is unreliable. When a probe tests “fine” during a diagnostic but then fails again in real use, it usually means there’s an intermittent hardware or contact situation that doesn’t always reveal itself in a short lab test. That would explain why it came back as “working,” only for you to see the red flashing light on your very next cook.

The behavior you’re describing isn’t normal for our probes, and you shouldn’t have to fight with the device every time you want to cook. We want the experience to feel predictable and solid, not hit-or-miss. You deserve a unit that performs properly every single time, and we’re here to help make sure you get to that point. If you want to give us another chance, please contact us so we can review alterantive options.

Call support and they tell me that the base unit/block needs to be replaced, and since it's out of warranty it'll be like $150 today for them to replace it. *Laughs*, like I'm going to pay that to replace one garbage unit with another of the same particularly when I can still count the numer of actual uses I got out of it on one go round of my digits. Meater sucks and I regret even buying this first unit, there are other better reviewed units out there. Likely filing a case with BBB.

Good day, Andrew. Hitting a WiFi difficulty on Thanksgiving (especially when you don’t use the Block often) can feel like terrible timing. Since the MEATER Block connects only to 2.4 GHz WiFi, situations often appear if the router changes, a mesh system merges the 2.4/5 GHz bands, or band steering is active. In many cases, updating the MEATER app, putting the Block back into WiFi setup, and reconnecting it specifically to a 2.4 GHz network brings it back online. When a Block still can’t see or hold a valid 2.4 GHz signal after all that, it usually points to hardware trouble, which is why out-of-warranty exchange options were mentioned; we share that only to be transparent about the steps that typically resolve situations like this. As always, we are open to discussing this further and providing you with the best resolution for your case.

I have been using meaters for years

I have been using meaters for years, and I feel like they are getting to be less reliable. Today for thanksgiving, they have a Cloud service problem. The worst possible day to loose the ability to read temps. I just ran to the store to get an analog temp probe.

Meater, you have let me down again.

Hello Brian, we know how important Thanksgiving cooks are, and we were aware of the temporary MEATER Cloud disruption that occurred that day. Our team worked on it actively, and this was resolved as quickly as possible. Even when Cloud is unavailable, you can still monitor your temps locally over Bluetooth or your home WiFi using MEATER Link/Bridge. For future big cooks, setting up that local path beforehand ensures you have a reliable backup regardless of internet status.

We appreciate you sticking with MEATER over the years, and we want your next holiday cook to be smooth and predictable.

Probe disconnects on long cooks. Customer service don't want to resolve.

Tried speaking to customer services about a probe within warranty which keeps disconnecting after about 5 or 6 hours.

I've been on live chat for over an hour running all sorts of tests. The conclusion of which is that they do nothing, and say to message them if it happens again. And when it happens again you are in exactly the same situation.

Its so frustrating, the probe is not working properly!

Hello Joe, we hear you, and six hours into a long cook is the worst time to lose a probe reading. On long, low cooks, the probe should stay steady, so here’s what typically causes drop‑offs and how to steady things.
We can review your case again, check alternative paths, and evaluate next steps based on warranty guidelines. If you’d like us to take another look with fresh eyes, feel free to reach out via phone at 1-888-407-0303. In this scenario, guidance over the phone is better.

You should be able to trust your temps on those long cooks. We are here to help you.

Hey there. This isn’t what you should expect from a Traeger. If something went wrong delivery, setup, temps, or WiFi there’s usually a quick fix or a straightforward warranty path, and our team can get you sorted. Call 1‑800‑TRAEGER and we’ll help get it back on track.

Only works for a while then it looses power and charges only sometimes. Sorting this out you have to.pay to send it to them. Not cool.

Hello Riaan, we hear you, and we understand how surprising it is when the probe doesn’t hold a charge consistently. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Make sure the charging contacts are clean and dry, and that you’re using fresh batteries for the probe. Following our recommended steps on the website support.meater.com can often help resolve intermittent power situations. If this continues, contact our customer support team; they’re ready to assist you in getting your MEATER working reliably.
