Disappointing experience with cleaning

We recently stayed at Domaine la Dragonnière (Sandaya). While the campsite itself is fine, our experience with the accommodation and deposit was very frustrating.

When we arrived, the accommodation was not properly cleaned—there was dirt and leftover mess from previous guests. Despite this, we made sure to leave everything tidy ourselves, doing all basic cleaning such as brushing, washing dishes, and general tidying.

To our surprise, we were charged €135 for “cleaning not done”. Sandaya and Swikly provided photos of minor imperfections but refused to give any breakdown of tasks, hours, or costs, and we were never informed that professional-level cleaning was required.

This felt excessive and unfair. While the campsite is nice, the lack of transparency, combined with the poor initial cleanliness and the unexpected cleaning charge, made the experience very disappointing.

Tip for future guests: Document the state of your accommodation upon arrival and departure, and be prepared for potentially high cleaning fees.

Customer service ok, could be better

Change in booking too much hassle (wrong answer initially and when you call about it response is to mail request, they cannot put your request during a call with them themselves to the right colleague) but resolved. Camp sites are good though.

Cockroaches and lack of hygiene

If you value a clean and comfortable cabin, without cockroaches, don’t book booked this campsite.

We booked this campsite full of anticipation for a long-awaited holiday. We specifically booked cottage Anis, largely based on the photos and description on the website. Unfortunately, it became clear immediately upon arrival that the accommodation did not match our expectations at all.

The cottage had an outdated and impersonal feel, completely different from the modern and warm atmosphere presented online. Inside, we encountered several problems: stained and ripped mattresses, leaking walls, poorly cleaned dishes, and we also found - to our shock - two cockroaches, one on our bedroom wall and another in the kitchen. The whole place was simply filthy and unhygienic.

For €1500 for one week, we really expected a much higher standard of hygiene and comfort. Despite the beautiful surroundings, this was an extremely disappointing experience.

Worst of all: we filed complaints multiple times, twice at the reception and once by email , but have received absolutely no response to date. This complete lack of customer service is truly unacceptable.

We will never book a Sandaya campsite again and strongly advise others not to do the same. Find another camping chain that actually cares about its guests.

Not recommended!

Very unfriendly staff at the reception

We made a reservation for 3 nights with our camperbus, by phone, and were very friendly serviced. We arrived at Le Truc Vert, got a pitch assigned by a French woman at the reception (I'm mentioning this because there are different nationalities at the reception). We drove up to the pitch towards the electricity socket and got stuck in the sand. Tried to get out but the tires digged a deep hole. Apparently a root of a tree had crowled around the bullbar of the van, holding it back. A group of very friendly German guys came to help us. Cutted the root and while I already was down at the reception to ask for help, the van was a little released. I asked whether a tractor could come to pull us out. The only one person capable of driving it was gone, in the meantime it was between 6 and 7 pm. A German woman at the reception was surprised that we were on that pitch, saying that usually they don't appoint it to campers. I pushed for help, since I was afraid the camper would get damaged. After a bit of nagging the French woman who assigned us the pitch with a colleague came up to have a look. After some further trying we didn't manage to get out completely so we had to wait for the tractor the next morning. The French woman told her colleagues that we should never have driven up via the left side of the pitch since we could have seen that that part was softer. However: this was not visible when we came, it had been us digging the whole on the left in the sand, it was not there yet! But she didn't know because she only saw the pitch after we digged ourselves in! It felt unfair and pervasive to hear from a distance how negatively she was talking about us to her colleague when they left. Next morning two very helpful guys managed with a tractor to get us out. Confirming that this pitch is not at all suitable for any car. We were told as well by the German guys who helped us that we were certainly not the first ones being stuck there.
What was very disturbing was the total lack of knowledge and understanding plus the indifferent attitude from both the French and German women at the reception. They kept saying we didn't have to drive into the pitch on the left side so in fact they suggested it was our own fault. Very sad. If only the French woman would have apologised for putting us there without any warning whatsoever, and when the attitude would have been more understanding, the situation would have been totally different. After we were "released" that morning we left the camping, took our loss of the other 2 nights and found ourselves a much friendlier place, also a nature camping. There are plenty in that area.

Made a reservation for a week in Valencia. I have 2630!! Loyalty points, however, not able to use this for any accomodation. Contacted the client service, but still not able to use my points. Next time I will book this camping at vacansoleil, they offer extra discount and free cancellation. I had to pay 84.50 for this.

Drunk people screaming and very loud music well past midnight

Upon arriving the park looked nice, clean and well-maintained. The facilities were clean (more about that later) and there was a nice playground for the children. The staff appeared young and unexperienced, a bit bored maybe. With printed notices they warned guests about bad weather arriving. So why the one star? The website talked about “peace and quiet, getting away from it all…” What we got instead was the opposite. During our stay, we experienced loud music and drunk people shouting and screaming well past midnight. We talked to the staff about this experience and they said the noise disturbance is not uncommon. During our stay it occurred during and around the weekend, where large groups hire accomodation and it seems as if with little to no supervision these groups can do as they please. Like driving very fast on the campsite with motorised pets, playing loud music, shouting and screaming after midnight. At one noisy night, around 3 am, two police cars and an ambulance showed up for an incident related to drug and alcohol abuse. It didn’t feel safe. This place wasn’t anything like the child friendly place we imagined it to be. Our kids had trouble sleeping in and so did we. The staff did not seem willing or able to do anything about it. So after three such disturbed nights we finally decided to leave. We did request Sandaya for a refund of the unused time (12 nights). Perhaps the reply by mail from central office was even more unempathetic than our interactions with local staff. The mail appeared to be a default mail in case of noise disturbances, stating that ‘Les Aliscourts’ is a ‘club Sandaya’ that can be ‘more lively until midnight’. Furthermore, our impression is that they hide behind the policies on the website stating no refunds (and we had to pay our entire stay upfront). So one star for the experience. And the five stars campsite? I would expect some serious improvements. First, the pool felt dated and it could be cleaner. For example, in the inside pool there was a strange odor, like wet sweat socks or something. It felt unhygienic, even though you must wear a speedo. Ironically, wearing the correct swimsuit is the only thing they do seem to patrol diligently. Second, I would expect the restaurant to be open sooner than 19u, especially for a place that is oriented towards families with young children. Even if it is just take-away. Our kids must sleep around 19.30 so the restaurant was useless for us. Lastly the facilities. I guess the cleaner’s secret to keeping them clean is to make sure it is not used. Every morning around the time people go brush their teeth etc, the cleaner would have already closed off one site of the building that was being ‘cleaned’ and in the other half of the building all of the faucets except one would appear not working / disabled. The only one of them working was permanently running water (so much for the eco-request to guests to use water sparingly)… in the afternoon when it was quieter all faucets worked again. I wouldn’t expect such things from a five-star campsite. All in all I wouldn’t recommend anyone going to this campsite.

Customer Service does not help

Customer Service does not help. My booking incl downpayment was canceled by Sandy, one week after booking without an email or phone call. I discovered it almost a year later, when I was asking when I needed to pay the rest. Luckily I found another available place myself, because customer service did not help me at all. Total confusion and every department points towards another department...

Reservations may be cancelled.

I booked a house through the website and paid a deposit, and I received a reservation number. A week later they called me from Sandaya and said that there were no rooms and they were forced to cancel our reservation. They promised to return the deposit, but another week has passed and nothing has been returned yet. We planned to spend time with friends, they managed to buy a house and now we are in different places, the holiday is ruined!

The best campings!

All is very clear on the website. And they offer qualitative campings. Will be my 4th camping that I will discover and looking forward to in June! Thanks team Sandaya!
