Car damage after returning it - am I liable?

I rented a car in Rovaniemi Finland, a blue Seat Leon, between 21 and 25 October 2025. The car worked as intended. And it was exactly the car I booked. The car did not have any meaningful damages when picked up, and I returned the car surely without any damage. The car was returned at 11:05 am at the Rovaniemi airport, being parked in the Sixt's # 01 spot in the airport. As there was no one to receive the car, I dropped the keys in the box 11:10 am. One hour later, I received the return receipt of the car, stating a major scratch (>10cm) at the driver's door. Curiously enough, the car has not sustained any whatsoever impact while with me, and it was incredibly dirty (because of inclement weather) when returned, how could Sixt's employee detect something bellow all the dirt, only there, and send me a precise picture of that only (now cleaned) spot? Curiously enough also, that I am considered liable for a damage that was for sure sustained in the airport, in Sixt parking spot. Despite all my complaints, Sixt keeps repeating I am liable. And sent me an 800 Euro bill full of menaces. I question myself what kind of business model this is, and what kind of respect to customers they have. I guess they need to start offering insurance against their own dishonesty.

Yet another damage scam by Sixt Finland

Unfortunately I can only confirm previous reviews mentioning abusive "damage" management by Sixt Finland.

After returning the car in Turku out of business hours, I was invoiced 722€ for two inexisting "dents" to the reer wheel arch of the car.

Luckily I was able to make plenty of pictures and even a video as evidence showing that no damage was present. I sent them to the "damage office" at Helsinki airport, which totally ignored them and unilateraly confirmed the invoice.

This is outright abusive and fraudulous
Sadly, it seems to be the current trend with Sixt Finland, I strongly advise to avoid them in a near future.

SIXT accuses me of 2 small impacts of 1 mm in the windshield and demands the price of a windshield

I have just rented a car for a week from SIXT Helsinki Airport. When picking up the vehicle, no contract was handed over (I thought it would be sent by email, which later turned out not to be the case). No one at the parking lot neither, (a few advices on how to start this car would have been helpful) and its quite dark in the parking, you can look for existing damages to the car prior to leave but in all case, small details are absolutely impossible to spot.
Return of the vehicle with nothing to report, a SIXT employee was there in its small office, didn't move from it, didn't check the car and just received the keys from us.
3 days later, email from SIXT showing me a photo with 2 small dots on the windshield surrounded by a pencil circle. No details on the size of the impacts but I would say that each point is less than 1 mm, the pencil circle surrounding the dots must measure less than 1 cm. And so SIXT tells me "The following excesses will be applied to these damages, which you have agreed with your signature to the rental agreement : full value (amount detailed nowhere but as I have not received any contract, I don't know what amount we are talking about). I protested, refused any responsibility and as SIXT was able to verify in its own IT tool that I had not received any contract, they finally closed the case writing me that I owed them nothing.
Their lack of professionalism saved me because in any case, with such companies, the fight is necessarily unequal. How to defend yourself at distance against someone who can activate your credit card?
Hence this opinion. I have no advice to give on the choice of SIXT or not, I report factually this unpleasant experience, browsing at internet, I note that the number of similar complaints against SIXT is significant and for my part, my experience will serve as a guide for my next rentals.

DO NOT RENT WITH THEM. SCAMMERS

DO NOT RENT WITH THEM WITHOUT COMPLETE INSURANCE IN THEIR OFFICE.
Let me share what happened to me.

When I picked up the car in the morning of 2 December, during normal office hours, the receptionist offered me a car that had many minor defects, 14 to be exact. I told her that I needed a paper copy as it was too much text for me to look at on a mobile phone and also there was too much damage to know where it was, as the location of the damage, if it is not very obvious, is not easy to find. She told me that she could not give it to me on paper, that she could only send it to me by email, but not to worry, that there would be someone to attend me in the car park and he/she would check the car with me. When I arrived at the car park after a 10 minute walk with a 9 year old girl in -10 degrees Celsius, there was no one from SIXT. It was completely closed, with the blinds down. I couldn't see any serious damage, so I decided to leave. I had been forced to sign a paper that I couldn't check if I wanted to take the car I had booked.

My journey, which the company will be able to check perfectly as I imagine the vehicle has GPS tracking, was from the airport car park, straight to "Aeronautica Arena", an event centre located 106 kms to the East. I parked it in the middle of an esplanade in a place far away from any other vehicles and picked it up on the day of return.

By the above I mean that it is frankly impossible that I or anyone else scratched the car. It was used on a road I drive on regularly where it is impossible for anything to happen to the car unless I have an accident, which I did not.

When I delivered the car on the 3rd of December at 2000 hours there was no one in the car park to receive the car with me present. Nobody could verify that the car was exactly as I received, with the same 14 defects, at the time of delivery. Anyway the damage supposedly appeared the day after, when they checked the car 12 hours later from the moment I parked. Anyway I am pretty sure that those scratches were already there. Maybe they were part of this 14 in the attached report.

When I parked the car I walked to the airport office and told the man there that I had been made to sign a contract with a number of damages that I could NOT check when I signed it (they would not give me a written copy); that I was told there was someone there to check the car with me and there was not; that I was given the car with an alarm on the empty wheel box and forced to check it myself; and that there was also no one to take the car and check it with me when I handed it over. I believe that this verbal complaint at the time I handed over the car is the only reason why someone has tried to rip me off by saying that I have caused damage to the car that I did not cause. Absolutely nothing happened to the car while I had it.

Even more weird, in an email received on the morning of the 4th they tell me that the car has one (1) new damage in an area near the boot. In a second later email I was told that the car had multiple damages all over and that I had to pay the full excess of 1100 euros. It is striking that first they said one thing and then another, but in neither case is it true. I did not cause any wear and tear to the car. It is frankly impossible.

Great service every time- multiple rentals

I rent from the location near my house as I don't have a car but live nearby. So when I need one, I walk over and rent one. Never had a problem with pick up or drop off. They have been more than kind on more than one occasion when I have forgotten something important in the car after I have dropped it off out of hours. Great service on multiple rentals.
