Same camera different problems

Bought this dash camera because I bought the same make and model 3.5 years ago. Original camera worked fine for 3 years. Original camera began to constantly restart about 3 years in so its no longer functional despite much trouble shooting including reformatting the SD card. I bought the exact same camera so I wouldn't have to rerun the wires in the car. New camera wont work on original wires so now need to rerun wires anyway. No time or effort has been saved with buying the same model again and will likely break in 3 more years. I'll probably try a different manufacturer next time given I'm rerunning wire regardless

We did make an upgrade to the N4 previously, so there may be two different versions of the rear cable. The charging cable and car charger are compatible with both versions. If both of your N4 cameras are the same version, it’s possible that your old N4 isn’t actually broken and there may just be an issue with the cable or mount.

The camera app is very poor and…

The camera app is very poor and frustrating to use.
Even though my car is only about 100 meters away and clearly visible from my 5th-floor apartment, I cannot access live recording on my phone.

The camera is powered through the OBD port (under the steering wheel), which is supposed to support 24-hour parking/live monitoring, but this feature does not work properly and has no clear instructions.

The app also forces Wi-Fi reconnection repeatedly, making it unreliable and not user-friendly.
Please fix the app, stabilize the connection, and make the OBD 24-hour live view work as advertised.

Regarding live view: dash cam Wi-Fi is designed for short-range use only (typically a few meters). A distance of around 100 meters—even with line of sight—is unfortunately beyond the capability of standard Wi-Fi due to vehicle shielding and signal limitations. Remote live view from an apartment requires an LTE connection rather than Wi-Fi.

As for the OBD power cable, it provides continuous power for parking mode recording, but live remote access depends on the camera’s connection method and settings. We agree that the instructions could be clearer, and your feedback on this is very helpful.

We’re also sorry about the repeated Wi-Fi reconnection issue. Our app team is actively working on improving connection stability and overall usability.

Regarding the “chip,” the LTE feature requires a separate LTE module. The LTE module already includes a SIM card, so there is no need to purchase one separately.

Excellent quality, great dashcam

After doing some research and viewing a friend's footage and still shots I decided to get the Vantrue Falcon F1 dash cam for my new Kawasaki Versys 650 GT motorcycle. I found that the Vantrue Falcon F1 is an excellent motorcycle dash cam and that it delivered exactly what I wanted from a dash cam - very clear footage and being able to read other vehicle's registration plates, reliability and peace of mind. The installation was straightforward and easy enough, the hardest part was deciding exactly where to mount the cameras and I did manage to hide just about all of the wires / cables. The location I chose for the 4K front camera was just below the headlights, a small piece of the bike's cowling can be seen at the top of the footage, but does not interfere with the view of the roads. I managed to find a suitable location to bolt the 1080P rear camera to the underside of the top box plate. I tucked the main control box and the remote unit under my seat and hid most of the wires in there too.
The Vantrue app on my Samsung Galaxy S23 was very easy to install and set up, and it was really easy to use to set up all my personal preferences for recording etc. It connects quickly and makes reviewing the footage simple, or if you want to download a long journey then you can remove the memory card by undoing the two small screws on the card cover and then use your pc to download and view everything. Overall, the Vantrue F1 feels like a premium and well thought out system that is designed specifically for motorcyclists that gives you good clear footage from both front and rear camera and being able to read number plate registrations with both cameras. I have both cameras set up on their best quality recording and with a 1 minute loop.
I have no problems in recommending this Vantrue Falcon F1 dash cam for videoing / recording your journeys and it also makes a perfect witness if you are unfortunate enough to be involved in any mishap.
