Misselling

As a new charity Trustee of a Community Centre, I found OpenRent on a search for "commercial gas inspection" and contacted them to book a gas safety inspection for the centre, as our previous gas engineer had retired. I made clear when booking that it was an inspection in a community centre. The address of the site also includes "Community Centre". They took my money and booked the job in. The engineer duly attended. He could not conceivably have missed that it was a community centre and not a residential building - it is in an isolated spot in a big carpark with an industrial gate, "Community Centre" in massive lettering over the door, and inside is a bar area, hall and boxing gym. Nothing residential about it. None the less, although he was not qualified to do gas safety inspections on commercial properties, he inspected the boilers, and issued a DOMESTIC gas safety certificate. I queried this. AT that point OpenRent told me that they only do residential properties and I should have known that was what I was booking because somewhere on their web page it mentions CP12. There is nothing on their site which says they only do work for residential landlords, not commercial ones and I did not know that I had to know the certificate number. They decline to refund or do anything about it. Misselling. Eventually, after making clear that the matter would be escalated through the relevant authorities and ultimately to court if not resolved, they refunded my money. I am concerned, given that their website does not make clear that they do not provide services for commercial buildings, that others will be similarly mis-sold a product which is of no use to them and leaves them legally at risk.

As mentioned, OpenRent services are set up for residential lettings. The CP12 certificate we offer is a landlord gas safety record, which is outlined on the purchase page:

Prompt assistance

Water company was prompt in getting a reading done when I couldn't read the metre properly, and corrected the bill accordingly. Big relief as with my reading it would have run into ££thousands!

Prompt, professional, great job, good price - even though a challenging job.

Got a very competitive quote and an appointment within 48 hours. Car had a bash on the front corner with a bit of a gouge and a bit of a distortion, so the repairer warned us at the start that he couldn't make it quite like new, but we asked him to do what he could, as the car is too old to justify a major bodyshop job. When he was finished it looked perfect to us. He worked quickly, cleanly and very professionally. Very highly recommended.

So far, what can go wrong has gone wrong. Terrible service.

1) We contracted for waste collection to start w/c April 21. It didn't formally start until 12 May. No explanation.
2) Once service theoretically started, in May, they failed to collect for several weeks because they did not follow instructions re access.
3) Once they started to collect, contractors repeatedly left the container in the road rather than on our premises. Still unresolved despite contacts.
4) We also contracted with them for PAT testing and Fire Extinguisher checks. Details of costs and coverage were given to us over the phone, but we were not sent any written confirmation of what this contract costs or covers.
5) When I contacted customer servcices about this, they seemed to feel it was not their responsibility to provide this information as they subcontract the work, although our contract is with them, not their sub-contractor.
5) They have an online portal which incorrectly lists us under the name of a different organisation. They have not corrected this error, despite being alerted to it.
6) Although this portal purportedly includes details of all quotes and orders, it does not include details of any of our contracts with them.

All of the issues raised in this review had previously been raised with the organisation. Since this time, additional problems have arisen, including posting our invoices to a different organisation in our area, with a similar name but not connected to us. This is continuing, despite having raised it with them and being assured it would be resolved.

Just don't buy it.

This is a chinese company, promoting through 5StopTest, which looks plausible but appears to be a fake review website. (eg it names top 10 products with what look like purchase links but only this one has a functioning link ). Tried to return the product new and unopened, which proved impossible - their customer service made clear, over long arguments, that by the time it had been sent back to China at my expense, plus import duties and handling fees which I would have to pay, with no guarantee that it would be refunded even then, it would be cheaper to buy something else. So I installed it. The picture quality is poor. It regularly detects movement but does not start recording until many seconds later, so the person has generally disappeared before the video kicks in. Sometimes it doesn't detect movement even when one goes right up to it. It regularly goes off line for days for no detectable reason. The subscription is expensive. The app is largely impenetrable, the instructions unfathomable. The main thing it's good for, on the days when it's online, is listening to the birdsong at the remote address where it's installed. Quite soothing. It picks the birds up very nicely.

Phenomenal value and a lovely quality.

I ordered two large bespoke size frames.
They arrived very quickly, very well packed.
Competitor sites had offered me the precise same spec product at more than twice the price, so I thought I was probably compromising on quality when I bought these. But no - they are excellent quality, really nicely finished, made with good materials, and perfect size.
Very pleased indeed.

Fantastic attention to detail, lovely result

The staff member who dealt with our order (new roadside signs for a community centre) could not have been more helpful or more considerate. They were absolutely meticulous in their attention to detail and to ensuring that the sign boards were precisely right for our needs. Very knowledgable and very lovely result. We would absolutely recommend them and will go back regularly.

Beautifully engineered

This swing is a beautiful piece of engineering - design that manages to combine sturdiness and elegance. I love the soaring solidity of the double frame and the silent movement of the two different swings. Customer service was helpful, responsive and prompt - really worth contacting them if you have queries, as we did, about how to make the bolts fit! They are clearly passionate about their product, and this shines through in the swing itself. Real quality.

do not trust this company

I tried to intercept and cancel this order a few hours after making it. I received a prompt reply which said this wasn’t possible but which added “We have 90 days for refund, you can try it after receiving the goods.”
"Try it" somehow did not inspire confidence.
The goods arrived with no paperwork, but carried a return address in the UK. I emailed the firm to check the correct address to return the item for a refund, making clear that it was still sealed and unopened. The response was “I need to explain that it is troublesome to return the goods. Please note: You need to return the goods and pay for the shipping, as well as the customs duties. It will cost a lot of money and time to return the goods from your place to China. In this case, how about we refund you 5% of this order and you don't return the package?” A 5% refund (<£6) for an item costing £109 that I don't want doesn't really hack it for me as a “refund”.

Clearly both the references to 90 day refund and the “.co.uk” URL are something of a sham. The company is in China and you have no consumer rights there. Caveat emptor.

BTW if you google it there’s a glowing review of this product on a site called 5toptest.org. Read it closely before you take any notice of this... The page poses as having reviewed lots of doorbells and making 5 recommendations. There was a big “buy now” link against this item, at the top, but the equivalent links against the other 4 recommendations – all labelled “learn more” rather than “buy” – are all dead. And I couldn’t see any evidence that this site had reviewed anything else apart from this doorbell... Draw your own conclusions .

Beautifully restored tiles, and a quite amazing price.
Really pleased with how they went down, how they took the grout, how they look now.
