Jason Daniels I don't say this lightly, as this has been a great year for music so far. But this is my favorite album of the year. Urban Heat is truly on fire. Somehow they keep setting the bar higher. Not a single bad track on this album, with my favorites being Sanitizer, Say the Words, and Seven Safe Places. Favorite track: Sanitizer.

--N-- Urban Heat’s The Tower is unbelievably fierce and has no skips for me. It’s riveting and always on-point, carrying a thrilling energy that’s dark and intense with an acute sharpness brewing just beneath the surface of an exquisite goth aesthetic. It’s as if you’re at a haunted rave in a medieval castle that’s being gazed upon by a presence strange yet benign, omniscient yet eternally unknowable. And the tragic reality is that this entity just wants to party, but it has no place to belong... Favorite track: You've Got That Edge.

matt von d solid contender for post-punk album of the year; the band has matured and developed astronomically since their first album, i struggle to commit to one favorite song—also an incredible band to witness live!!! Favorite track: Too Much Too Soon.

mok_skag I am a self-proclaimed old person.
I love this band! I was lucky enough to see them play in Minnesota.
They scratch my itch for original music.
keep speaking the truth. Don't sell out.

kat_1990 Urban Heat isn't even among my favorite bands (yet). But it appears that this is my favorite album of last year. It's just the album I listened to the most from start to finish. I'm addicted to the sounds ;). Picking a favorite track was hard. Take It To Your Grave is a powerful opener. I've also looped Too Much, Too Soon numerous times. Love Jonathan's voice, even if I sometimes think the vocals verge on being too intense, depends on my mood though. Much love for this amazing emotional voice. Favorite track: Take It to Your Grave.

about

The Tower marks Urban Heat's highly anticipated sophomore full-length. A highly personal album, the title pulls reference from The Tower Tarot card, which is widely associated with danger, crisis, sudden change, destruction, higher learning, and liberation, and the album itself features the band at their absolute peak. Songs like the arena-ready “Seven Safe Places” and the intricately steady “Take it to Your Grave,” show the band’s sonic versatility. The latter, which best exemplifies the majority of the record, is about feelings of unworthiness and fears of self-sabotage. Introspectiveness dots Horstmann's lyrics, driving home its power and relatability.

"The Tower is a story of a band that has begun to spread its wings, has taken the plunge into the unknown, and put thousands of miles under its feet. The Tower is moments of jubilation and moments of fear. The unbelievable joy of creation and the anxiety of fucking it all up. Ultimately it is a bridge, leading us from who we were when we started this, to all of the possibilities of the future.”
-Jonathan Horstmann
