de Havilland Sea Hornet navalized, carrier-capable variant of Hornet, British twin-engine piston fighter developed during WW2 as long-range escort fighter for potential Pacific ops against Japan. The war ended before it saw combat there, but the design proved exceptional.
January 1946. First flight of the first prototype Supermarine Seafang Type 382 F Mk.31. A Spiteful F.XV (RB520) powered by a 2,375 hp Griffon 61 engine, equipped with five-bladed constant-speed Rotol airscrew and sting-type arrester hook. Only 9 built.
