I’m making a roleplay campaign inspired by Stranger Things. Would you be interested in updates?
🍵ST isn’t my primary inspiration for it, but it definitely has a lot of elements a fan of ST would recognize

I'm still proud of the long analyses I've made discussing Will Byers and female horror tropes and how that interacts with his queerness. I stated before in those analyses that all of those choices were likely subconscious rather than intentional and given this finale that is likely the truth 😂
Will Byers, I still adore you as a horror-heroine-gay-boy that the Duffers accidentally created. Wish things could have been better written for you.
someone on tiktok said it best, they BROKE all their own rules of storytelling, all the rules that were established in canon got destroyed, and that's such an enormous betrayal of your fan base it's heartbreaking
Exactly, that's why the fanbase is crashing out so bad, whether some people want to awknoledge it or not.
Like, I hope you don't mind me being an unbearable nerd under your post for a minute, but the actual problem is that they broke the narrative pact. They broke the suspension of disbelief.
I saw people complain that we're nitpicking but honestly, no. Just no.
It's not just all the inconsistencies, it's not just the uncountable production mistakes (assuming they were actually mistakes), it's not even forgetting their own lore or trying and failing at subverting the tropes (if that even was the goal, I still don't understand what they were trying to do with that finale).
It's actively betraying the foundational themes of their own story, dumbing down their own monsters/villains and abandoning their characters, reducing them to stereotypes, love interests, plot devices and GODDAMN allegories.
They stopped justifying the characters' decisions and they stopped creating credible reasons for why certain things were the way they were. As a result the ending feels fake.
There's a reason if conformitygate became so big and it's because the finale is so ridiculous compared to the previous seasons that people genuinely couldn't believe they fucked up so bad.
and this is precisely why it’s not just people ‘being mad that byler didnt happen’
by the time s5 dropped, i did NOT ship byler anymore and got off the bus fully after the scene where Will tried to flirt with Mike but Mike didn’t reciprocate. And yet, I still fully expected to cringe as hell WHEN they became canon in the finale bc, taking past seasons into account, it sincerely felt like it was inevitable. i just thought it would be poorly written, like the rest of the season was.
but instead they NERFED byler to the point it is NOTICEABLE even their FRIENDSHIP was watered down??? and for what??? it gives such whiplash bc they did NOT give that storyline resolution at ALL ( the fact Noah had to ask for that tower scene multiple times ………………… )
byler not being endgame is a consequence of the decline in writing quality, not the reason why we’re mad.
i dont even know if im mad, im just disappointed and confused as hell because … why??? just why?????
they definitely changed Byler's whole vol 1 dynamic after something happened in the writers room or with Netflix cuz they're so different in vol 2 and 3, they were supposed to be canon until the beginning of episode 5, then they completely changed the dynamic and completed erased their friendship and made people think Mike didn't want to touch him anymore when he did
they also hid this
who is snoopclair? i have mixed opinions on this but i do feel like byler was at the very least on the table at one point so this has me raising my eyebrows
I have to open this by saying that my “Achilles Heel” when it comes to suspecting #comformitygate and I guess now entertaining it for a bit is none other than …
Also, it’s kind of interesting to me that people in the comments are bringing up the 2017 Sherlock Conspiracy when we have this 4th-wall-breaking moments in S4:
Coincidence? Who the hell knows atp. But tagging some people talking about this in case it helps or rings any bells:
@greenfiend @cypher-heart-no-key @maysileeewrites @itswhatyougive @o11yradio
very much recommend y'all look into the Sherlock Conspiracy because it was the exact same thing:
and surprise, surprise. That didn’t really go anywhere. So is the same happening here, or is there a level of self-awareness / meta at play?
i’m so tired
it was connected to this theory and this prediction
like i called him void!Mike bc he was the part of Mike that is in the subtext and I thought he has been outsmartin the audience + Will this whole time and had a plan to run away with Will once they graduated or something
but Will would confess to everyone that he was gay and "expose" Mike and Mike was gonna be Angry AF with him and that's what their season fight was gonna be about + the painting lie + the phone calls would also come out and it would be cool af so who knows maybe I was onto something there.
*sighs and opens ao3* if byler isnt engame / canon i might turn this into a fanfic bc honestly it was delish
I have a whole ass Mike as the DM analysis sitting on my drafts about this that I never had the heart to finish bc I ran out of juice but yeah if it turns out real then I'll polish it up and post it at some point
going back and re-reading this feels so strange because i definitely should write this out as a one-shot to get it out of my system
damn, the duffers genuinely could’ve committed to byler in s5 if they had wanted to, it was so easy to tie it all up neatly.
Mike’s trauma made him lose juice for his own campaigns and whereas he was a meticulous planner before, he became prone to plot holes and inconsistencies afterwards. He was never the same after Will got taken and the events of Stranger Things ensued
I think the Duffers knew Mike’s ending all along, tbh
ngl this crack ship saved my sanity like im so deadass if i was still a byler by the time s5 + the finale dropped i wouldve been so upset id have cried for DAYS im not joking
i feel so bad for my fellow bylers though i genuinely GENUINELY thought byler was gonna happen hence why i didnt really talk on main about my “byler doubt” more openly. i thought we would get poorly-written byler but here we are …
Anonymous asked:
everything bones except BYCHANCE (epilogue bf was just the beginning will eventually falls for chance)
YES!!
so in the meta, mike wrote will an imaginary boyfriend, BUT irl, wills actual lover was right there hiding in plain sight ( chance )
“the world is full of OBVIOUS things which nobody BY any CHANCE ever observes”
i’ll make a huge post, stay tuned my fellow bychancer 🙏💚🐯 I GOTCHU
i’ll write a whole fanfic + polish up my Bychance Slides
asking for my records 💚personally, to me its not a matter of belief, it’s a matter of the ‘byler magic’ kinda fizzling out to me with how s5 was handled 🤷♀️ can they pull it off? sure. me not liking smth / caring that much abt smth anymore doesn’t mean it’s not happening and i WILL celebrate with my byler community if it does happen for what it means to the world outside of the show, but storywise they have to reel me back in tbh
and no, im not 'media illiterate’, i just don’t really like how they’ve handled it so far, sue me
