I’ve been slowly working on illustrating my own Tarot deck about black cats.
I have a long way to go, but I’m nearly done with the major arcana.

I set myself a design challenge (as I often do). I wanted to limit the color palette and the brush styles to create a very consistent look.
And since each card focuses on black cats, it forces me to think deeply about symbolism and design to make sure the meaning of each card is clear and each design is unique.
But there’s still a lot of variety coming through. It’s not all class, or all silliness - just like cats

There are more but I don’t know yet how many I want to share online. If I can actually complete the entire deck I would love to have it made. But I have a ways to go, so for now I continue to chip away, one card at a time.
ive always rly liked the idea of a member of a group of adventurers having what everyone assumes is very well trained hawk and then at the end of their journey its casually revealed that thats actually just his buddy whos a shapeshifter and just rly likes being a hawk
the guy also like thinks everyone knows bc he never tries to hide the fact that the hawk is a person but everyone assumes hes always just joking. like the others being like “damn its crazy how he knows exactly what you want him to do its like he knows english or something.” and the guy is just like “well yeah thats his first language so ofc he’s fluent??” and they all go “haha good one” and move on, leaving him confused
they just think hes a quirky guy that really loves his pet and says things like “the 9 of us” even tho there are clearly only 8 people! he just cares about the bird so much he counts it as a group member haha !
harry potter fandom experiencing such a revival in the last 5 or so years to the point where 5 out of the top 10 ships on ao3 this year are hp AFTER that woman started fully funding hate campaigns with her royalties is so bleak. fandom isn’t an indicator of morality but what are we doing here man.
I don’t know if people are aware, but in the middle of last year, there was a whole mess of batch-uploading/account connecting from the former FictionAlley site and it wasn’t necessarily done by the author.
I assumed the site was dead and all my fics were long lost. I’d also been going through every archive I could find where my Potter fics were still available and purging them all.
So imagine my surprise when I start getting notifications that multiple Potter fics have been added to my account and attributed to me. They were mine, but they weren’t being added by me - my email for FA and my email for AO3 were the same, so there was some weird importing/association shenanigans happening which meant I suddenly had 20+ and rising Potter fics turning up on my account.
Thankfully, there was an option to let them to know to stop slapping my fics onto my account without my approval. I get there’s some element of “we’re archiving fics for the future”, but that was a horrible, horrible thing to wake up to. I don’t want to be associated by that woman any more than I have to be, even if that fandom was once incredibly important to me.
In the end I had to go back through my account and manually delete every. single. one. I think I was at upwards of 40 by the time they stopped.
I don’t know if this has happened to other authors or if, to ‘archive’ said fics, they are importing them under the FA name. I just know it would be worth having a check on AO3 to make sure your fics aren’t there under an old e-mail address.

I am begging you. Please learn about stress/discomfort tolerance. Practice raising it. You need this to survive. If someone online can ruin your day with a throwaway comment, you desperately need to understand discomfort tolerance and consciously, systematically build that shit.
Also! Stress tolerance is such an important skill that having a learning disability in that area is a major symptom of a whole lot of other disabilities/mental illnesses! Struggling with it is a huge part of life! It sucks!
Am I saying everyone with misophonia needs to listen to chewing noises all day? No. But you need to find ways to tolerate it enough that you don’t treat others like shit if they make a mouth noise near you.
No, you don’t have to read the fic with your trigger tags. But you do need to be able to handle scrolling past the tags without being upset.
It is hard! But not having it also makes you so so so easy to manipulate. That grandma is racist AF because her mom raised her to be uncomfortable around black people and she never fought that discomfort. Trans people make so many cis people uncomfortable and that discomfort turns into bigotry real fast.
Letting your discomfort dictate your actions and beliefs about things is a great way to become a terrible person. Learn. Discomfort. Tolerance.
As a preschool teacher, this is a skill you need for parenting. I cannot tell you how many kids I work with who are having an incredibly hard time because their parents don’t have the distress tolerance skills to cope with being a parent. I have so many kiddos who parents never let them be distressed (swooping in as soon as they’re crying, fixing natural consequences, flexing boundaries) because they themselves do not have the skills to cope with a crying child. This also sets their kid up to not have any distress tolerance skills of their own because they don’t see them practiced by adults and have no opportunities practice it themselves.

“At my old job in public education, my office mate invented the concept of the 8 Weeks of Doom. This was defined as the period between New Year’s and Spring Break where it was dark and gray, there were few holidays, and everyone’s seasonal depression hit an all-time high. To combat the 8 Weeks of Doom, she started a tradition of making me a Doom Calendar, which is an advent calendar but for fighting the Doom. She’d include small fidgets, snacks, stickers, and fun tea, which I’d open whenever the Doom felt very high on a particular day. Eventually this turned into a standing tradition of us making each other Doom Calendars, and the concept spread to our whole department. We would eventually just start our department meetings checking in about how everyone was managing the Doom, and did anyone want to open a Doom Calendar door for a quick pick me up? Even though we’re not longer office mates, I still exchange a Doom Calendar with this friend every year anyway. It really does help with the Doom!”
I adore this for the same reason I like winter celebrations/special days: humans realizing they can act to change their perception of reality. The longest dark, the coldest time of the year, can be dressed up as a party with lights and shiny things, or firecrackers and dancing wearing a lion costume. We can clean and make music and loud noises and give each other nice things and if we all do it very hard, together, maybe we won’t be so cold and sad.
