I don't like how they handled ending Triton's character arc thing after all this time so now I'm officially going to consider literally everything that's happened recently as Not Canon because doesn't make me happy anymore

and done that's the full po----nope here's more of my thoughts on this.

The main conflict of Triton's character arc story thingy has pretty much always appeared to me as a combination of A) lack of trust/communication between Triton and Neptune and B) identity crisis.

Lack of trust/lack of communication comes from how Neptune apparently never told Triton that he was a captured dwarf planet after literally billions of years? I mean, with that extreme lack of communication from Neptune, Triton's completely justified in being pissed.

Identity crisis from which category (dwarf planet or moon) Triton might fit or place himself in. I've got some pretty complicated interpretations because I write introspective angsty fics but pretty much, now that Triton knows he's a former dwarf planet, who might he belong with now?

Great, those two conflicts are a good enough story spice for---and then they didn't touch on anything for years. Fun.

But where they left off seemed to be Neptune and Triton not on friendly speaking terms, while Triton was attempting to place himself under the category of a dwarf planet.

And then the new episode they clearly tried to clean up the entire conflict by pretending that they talked at some point in the past? So obviously, this confrontation had to only be about... the early Neptunian moons from the far past that Triton accidentally destroyed.

That's not a conclusion to Triton's arc? That's a right turn onto something else. Sure, it does connect to the flashbacks Triton got and the whole theme of accidental celestial body deaths that's happened a lot in the show, but it wasn't the original problem?

I'll give it one point for Neptune and Triton sort of communicating, but remove two for both not actually communicating about the right thing and another appearance weird ambiguous therapist Neptune thing. (I have other grievances with the way they've made Neptune the emotionally mature therapist but off topic)

More than anything, it appears that the entire identity crisis part of Triton's character arc is being ignored. Or rather, the conflict of figuring out where he fits has been cut in favour of declaring him as fitting in as both. Enough of a dwarf planet to be one for the Sun (and for a handy plot device) while enough of a moon to be one in conversation with dwarf planets. They skipped to the end without passing through all the other stages.

The optimistic part of me wants to hope that Triton's identity crisis will further be addressed. That maybe Triton is acting this way out of convenience rather than an actual final decision. But this kind of sloppy writing is something that Solarballs has a problem with.

I mean, Uranus is the most obvious victim. He had dozens of (quite reasonable!) grievances and a promising start of a character arc. And then the show jumped over to the eternal flashback of the Theia arc (completely ignoring Uranus' present time problems). Then once it came back to present time, they forced Uranus to resolve all of his issues in pretty much one episode. So quickly in fact, that to me, Uranus reads closer to so depressed that he's decided nothing he does will change anything than with his issues resolved.

Honestly, the way that both Triton and Uranus' character arcs have been treated reads like Solarballs is sloppily trying to get them out of the way to let other characters take the spotlight. At that point, why'd they even bother to set up these genuinely interesting arcs if they're not going to give them justice?!

In conclusion this thing is strangely long and I don't know how that happened. tldr Triton's character arc was forcefully skipped to a conclusion that doesn't even cover the original issues, possibly just so that Solarballs can check off his development as complete and move on to other avenues

so little rant about the new episode

I would say I like it, but just one thing that really bothers me

is one triton says ‘technically, I’m a dwarf planet and I am a Foster Moon, so technically, I’m a dwarf planet’

it just really bothers me because yeah, you’re once a dwarf planet but now you’re moon, you’re orbiting Neptune

Is it just me or I just looking way too into it? It just feels like they took like the very easy route. It just felt like really lazy writing(no hate to the Solarballs team)

The rest of the episode was decent nothing special

"BARRBAKOA"

This genuinely took over 8 days from scriptwriting to the pages you all will be looking at! It's a 17-page short story about a planet (Cabab) telling a story to his moon (Sandy) about his beloved that he lost due to unfortunate events.

The short story is from the large project that myself, @n30ngutz and @nazt-void will be working on together! Currently we're around the 4th chapter and we may plan to send the first three soon!! So stay tuned for that!! :) (Psst Planet X will be a prominent character)

Perhaps in another post, I can show more drawings of Barrbakoa and Cabab if anyone wants to know!!

Proudly announcing…

So here it is! this is the big rewrite/remake of solarballs that I’ve been working on all last year and this year so far!

Planetary Nexus was originally just going to be a rewrite of the Theia arc in a comic format but as i’ve mentioned before the project quickly widened in scope and I had to rework it. The reworked version of Planetary Nexus is going to be an animated series hosted on youtube!

The series will have short episodes and will serve as my own spin on the solarballs series featuring my own art and animation.

I’m currently working on the pilot episode for Planetary Nexus but there isn’t a set release date yet as the episode is still somewhat early in production. At the moment, i’m aiming to release the episode sometime this year but that may change as I’m currently the only one working on this project.

This will also be my first large scale animation project and I hope all of you will come with me on this journy!

I hope to update you all again as the pilot episode progresses through production and gets closer to release :)
