so i forgot that i had a ziploc w gall specimens in it in my pocket so today at work i went huh whats this and then pulled a ziploc containing multiple live wasps out of my vest
saw several notes assuming im an entomologist which is reasonable but its important to me that you guys know that im an electrical engineer. this occured in a hardware lab
ironically no! the wasps were the goal, just not in my pocket at work lol. as for greatest fear: dont worry about it!! gall wasps are absolutely miniscule, they cant sting, and they just kind of politely explore the ziploc
good luck with your dye endeavors! :>
Ah!! Honestly that's good to know, I'm aware there are many beautiful non-stinging wasps in the world but I hadn't ever bothered to look up what the deal with gall wasps was. They're pretty cute!
I hope at least one person at your work appreciated the impromptu science demo lol, that does sound kinda magical once you get over the shock.
One of todays lucky 10,000! A bonus fun fact: galls don't actually harm the tree at all, the trees don't mind! Galls are so cool, its so crazy how the wasps can induce them to grow in such specific and complex forms like, look at these ones I've photographed recently
And here are some of the girlies themselves! Hardworking single mothers making homes for their babies, amazing in this housing market
